Is mitral regurgitation dangerous?

Question
Hello doctor,
I have mitral regurgitation 2.5/4 type llA2. VC=5mm, soft valve; hp73 1/4 tricuspid valve, no pulmonary hypertension (PAPs = 20 mmHg; undilated ascending aorta, no sign of dissection, no hypertension, no diabetes). So the doctor asked me if mitral valve prolapse is dangerous? Thank you.

Answered by Associate Professor, Doctor, Specialist II Chu Hoang Van - Department of Examination, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital.
Hello,
With the question “Is mitral regurgitation dangerous? ", the doctor would like to answer as follows:
The doctor does not know your age, but with the above echocardiography results, you have mild mitral regurgitation, soft valves may not be caused by rheumatic heart disease. If you do not have related symptoms (chest tightness, dyspnea and normal ECG, you do not need medication) but you should monitor, visit a cardiologist every year and when abnormal.
If you still have questions about mitral valve prolapse, you can go to a hospital of Vinmec Health System for further examination and advice. Thank you for trusting and sending questions to Vinmec. Wishing you lots of health.
Best regards!
