What is the cause of anal pain that cannot be defecated?

Question
Hello doctor,
I have pain in the anal area even though I have defecated. When sitting or lying down, I keep feeling a prickling pain like a needle around the inside of the anus, sometimes there is a feeling of pressure like a flow pressing the anal area causing sharp pain. I want to go to the bathroom but I can't. When I put pressure on my anus, the pain got better for a few hours and then the symptoms came back. So the doctor asked me what is the cause of anal pain that cannot be defecated? Thank you doctor.

Answered by Specialist Doctor I Tran Ngoc Thuy Hang - Emergency Resuscitation Department, Vinmec Central Park International Hospital. What is the cause of not being able to defecate? , the doctor would like to answer as follows:
The signs you describe may be encountered in pathological problems in the anus such as anal fissures, blocked hemorrhoids, anal sphincter disorders,... For exact information pathological conditions requiring anal examination as well as anorectal endoscopy.
You can use some common measures first such as: Practice defecation at a fixed time frame, avoid defecation, avoid stress. Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, drink enough water (from 2-3 liters of water/day). If the condition does not improve, you need to see a gastroenterologist for further advice.
If you still have questions about anal pain, you can go to a hospital of Vinmec Health System for further examination and advice. Thank you for trusting and sending questions to Vinmec. Wishing you lots of health.
Best regards!
