Answered by Specialist Doctor II Nguyen Xuan Ninh - Emergency Resuscitation Department, Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital.
Hello,
With the question “How to treat peripheral nerve palsy? ", the doctor would like to answer as follows:
VII nerve is a motor nerve, controlling facial muscle movement. Peripheral cranial nerve palsy, also known as peripheral facial paralysis, is a state of complete or partial loss of movement of the muscles of the half of the face due to damage to the facial nerve. This condition is in contrast to central facial paralysis which is damage to the brain.
VII Peripheral paralysis after trauma, there are cases that will need surgical intervention, there are cases where only medical treatment is needed. To choose the right treatment method, you need to see a neurosurgeon to have an examination, an MRI scan to know the type of lesion and to be able to recommend the right treatment for you.
Acupuncture without knowing the exact type of lesion may not be beneficial for treatment.
If you still have questions about peripheral nerve palsy, you can go to a hospital of Vinmec Health System for further examination and advice. Thank you for trusting and sending questions to Vinmec. Wishing you lots of health.
Best regards!
