Should biopsies be used to assess thyroid function?

Ask
Hello doctor!
I am 29 years old this year. It's been 5 months now I've lost 5kg. I exercise for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon. I still eat and sleep well, or sweat my head. A few months ago, I had a physical examination and found a goiter on the right side, but the doctor said the goiter was still in the normal level. I don't know if I lost weight due to exercise or a thyroid problem? Should I have a biopsy to try again? I wish the doctor for advice. I would like to thank you.

Answer
Hello!
The indication for a thyroid biopsy is to check for cancer, not to evaluate thyroid function.
You should go to an endocrinologist to get a thyroid function test, in addition, the doctor can do more tests to find other causes if any. I wish you well!
