Meloxicam belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), used to relieve pain and inflammation in cases of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis.

1. What is the dose of meloxicam for adults and children?

1.1 Adults

Rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis: Initially 7.5 mg / day and can be used up to 15 mg / time / day. Do not exceed 15mg/day. Acute pain of osteoarthritis: 7.5 mg/time/day. When needed (or not improving), may be increased to 15 mg/time/day. If used intramuscularly, the dose should not exceed 15mg/day. For people at high risk of complications, the starting dose is 7.5 mg/day. Duration of treatment 2 - 3 days (this time allows, if necessary, to switch to oral or rectal).

1.2 Elderly people

Elderly people: 7.5 mg/time/day.
Liver failure, renal failure: Mild and moderate, no dose adjustment is required; Do not use in people with severe renal impairment (ClCr < 20 ml/min).
Renal failure on hemodialysis: Do not exceed 7.5 mg/day.

1.3 Children

2. Contraindications to the drug meloxicam

Hypersensitivity to the drug, people with a history of allergy to aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Peptic ulcer disease progression. History of peptic ulcer disease. Stomach bleeding, brain bleeding. Treatment of pain after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Do not use rectal suppositories for people with a history of proctitis or rectal bleeding.

4. Side effects when taking meloxicam

Digestive disorders (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea), itching, skin rash, headache, dizziness. Mild elevation of liver enzymes, esophagitis, peptic ulcer, potential gastrointestinal bleeding. Decrease in white blood cells and platelets. Stomatitis, urticaria. Hypertension. Increased levels of creatinine and blood urea, pain at the injection site. Dizziness, tinnitus and drowsiness. To minimize undesirable effects on the gastrointestinal tract, it is necessary to take the drug immediately after eating or use it in combination with antacids and protect the gastric mucosa.

5. Can meloxicam be used in pregnant and lactating women?
