'Bad' foods good for weight loss

Losing weight is always one of the goals for good health of many people. Diet plays an important role in determining the effectiveness of weight loss. Contrary to popular belief, certain foods do not make for a healthy diet but have the potential to lose weight.

1. Potatoes

Potatoes are the food that scores highest on the “Saturation Index” scale, a scale that measures how full a food is. But how to cook the potatoes is the important issue. Research suggests that boiled potatoes will help you feel fuller for longer. But baking, combined with healthy foods like sautéed broccoli, is another good option. Potatoes are unhealthy but gluten-free, provide more potassium than bananas, and are a good source of vitamin B6 and vitamin C.

2. Pasta

Pasta is a favorite dish of many people, but eating pasta is not fat is a common question that makes some people hesitate before deciding to enjoy. Pasta, the main ingredient in pasta dishes, is thought to be a food that takes a long time to spike blood sugar. Studies done on people who eat low glycemic diets show that a moderate amount of pasta is not harmful to health. In fact, the participants were still able to lose weight while eating pasta. The bottom line is to choose whole-wheat pastas - the more they taste, the less likely they are to spike blood sugar.

3. Nuts

They can be high in fat and calories, but you don't have to skip them to lose weight. In fact, studies show that women who eat nuts two or more times per week are almost 25% less likely to be obese and gain less weight than those who avoid nuts.

4. Cheese

If you're counting calories, don't equate all cheeses. One study found that adding calcium-rich low-fat milk to low-calorie meals can actually help you lose a little bit of weight while preserving bone health.

5. Coffee

A cup of coffee a day will not hinder your weight loss efforts. In fact, researchers suggest that the caffeine in coffee may make you feel less hungry and burn more calories. But adding sugar and cream can make coffee a less healthy drink. It may even increase your weight over time.

6. Rice

A diet that includes whole grains, like brown rice, can really help you keep your body weight at a healthy level. In addition to fiber that helps increase satiety, you'll also get vitamins B1 and B6, magnesium, selenium, phosphorus, and manganese. And even though white rice doesn't have these benefits, with limited and reasonable portions, you can still enjoy them without worrying about gaining weight.

7. Chocolate

Dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants and studies show it helps insulin work better in your body, while controlling hunger. This makes chocolate an ideal sweet to end a healthy meal.

8. Butter Popcorn

Popcorn is a great source of fiber and helps satisfy hunger quickly, so it's less likely that you'll overeat to the point of weight gain.

9. Whole milk

Drink full-fat milk to lose fat? It sounds weird, but experts say it might be. Studies show that drinking a glass of whole milk regularly does not cause weight gain and may even help you lose weight. While they're not sure how it works, it could be because the high milk content creates a feeling of fullness quickly and helps keep you from overeating other foods the rest of the day.
