What effect does the fetus have on the nuchal translucency of 1.3mm?

Question
Hello doctor,
I am 16 weeks pregnant with my first child (history of 2 stillbirths at 6 weeks and 8 weeks). Last month, I had a Double test, the results of Down syndrome are as follows: Nuchal translucency 1.3mm, cut off 1:250, risk according to mother's age 1:1272, composite risk 1:712. So the doctor asked me if the fetus has a nuchal translucency of 1.3mm, what effect does it have? Thank you doctor.

Hello,
With the question “What effect does the fetus have on the nuchal translucency of 1.3mm? ”, the doctor would like to answer as follows:
Normally, Double test results are divided into 3 groups:
Risk higher than 1/10: Need a biopsy or amniocentesis for diagnosis Risk less than 1/1000: Just follow up on morphological ultrasound. If the ultrasound is normal, nothing else is needed. With an average risk of 1/10 - 1/1000: Normal morphological ultrasound will add NIPT (non-invasive prenatal screening test) to completely rule out the risk of Down's disease. If morphological ultrasonography is suggestive of an abnormality, amniocentesis or chorionic villus biopsy should be performed. Your screening result has a nuchal translucency of 1.3mm, the risk of Down syndrome is 1/712. With this result, you should have a detailed morphological ultrasound of the fetus, if the fetal morphology is normal, NIPT can be done.
If you still have questions about the fetus with a nuchal translucency of 1.3mm, you can go to the hospital of Vinmec Health System for further examination and advice. Thank you for trusting and sending questions to Vinmec. Wishing you lots of health.
Best regards!
