Errin drug: Uses, indications and precautions when using

Errin, the active ingredient norethindrone, is a type of birth control pill. The drug is prepared in the form of tablets with a content of norethindrone of 0.35 mg.

1. What effect does Errin have?

Errin, used to prevent pregnancy, is often called a "mini-pill" because it doesn't contain any estrogen. The hormone norethindrone, which is a form of progestin, works to prevent conception by making vaginal fluid thicker to prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changing the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent a fertilized egg stick on. If the fertilized eggs do not attach to the uterus, they will pass out of the body. Errin also blocks the release of an egg (ovulation) for about half of a woman's menstrual cycle. Although Errin is more effective than some other methods of birth control (such as condoms, cervical cap, diaphragm), it is less effective than combined hormone contraceptives (estrogen and progestin). ) because norethindrone does not consistently prevent ovulation. The drug is often used by women who cannot supplement estrogen. To reduce the risk of pregnancy, it is important to take Errin exactly as prescribed. The use of Errin does not protect patients against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV , gonorrhea , chlamydia ).

2. How to use Errin

Patients need to carefully read the leaflet provided by the pharmacist before you start using Errin. The leaflet contains very important information about when to take the medicine and what to do if the patient misses a dose. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist for more specific instructions.
Errin is taken by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. Patients should choose a memorable time of day to take their medication at the same time each day.
Taking Errin after the evening meal or at bedtime may be helpful if the patient experiences abdominal pain or nausea while taking the drug. Patients may choose to take Errin at a different time of day that is easier to remember. Regardless of the dosing schedule a patient uses, it is very important to take Errin at the same time each day, 24 hours apart.
It is best to start taking Errin on the first day of your period. If the patient starts taking the pill on any other day, use an extra form of non-hormonal birth control (eg, condoms, spermicide) for the first 48 hours to prevent pregnancy until when Errin has enough time to work.
Continue to take one pill per day. After taking the last pill in a pack, start a new pack the next day. There is no break between packages, and the patient does not need to take any "reminder" tablets (no pill). The patient's period may be irregular, heavier or lighter than usual. Patients may also experience vaginal bleeding (bleeding) between periods. The patient should not stop taking the drug if this occurs.
Chances of getting pregnant are increased if you miss a pill, start a new pack of pills late, or take your pill at a different time of day than usual. If the patient misses a pill or takes it 3 hours or more later than usual, or has diarrhea or vomiting right after taking the pill, use a backup method of birth control (such as condoms, birth control pills, etc.) spermicide) every time you have sex, for the next 48 hours.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to switch from other forms of hormonal birth control (such as the patch, other birth control pills) to Errin. If any information is not clear, refer back to the leaflet or doctor and pharmacist.

3. Drug interactions

Drug interactions can change the way Errin works or increase the risk of serious side effects. The article does not cover all possible drug interactions when using Errin. Patients should keep a list of all products they are taking (including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal products) and share them with their doctor or pharmacist for advice in the future. Specific case. Patients should not start, stop, or change the dose of any medication on their own without consulting a doctor.
Some medications can make hormonal birth control less effective by reducing the amount of birth control hormones in the patient's body. This effect can lead to an unwanted pregnancy. May refer to drugs such as: griseofulvin, modafinil, rifamycins (such as rifampin, rifabutin), St. John's wort, medicines used to treat epilepsy (such as barbiturates, carbamazepine, felbamate, phenytoin, primidone, topiramate), HIV drugs (such as nelfinavir, nevirapine, ritonavir), and certain others.
Inform the physician when the patient is starting any new medication and discuss whether additional reliable contraception should be used. Also, let your doctor know if you have any new or sudden bleeding, as these could be signs that current birth control isn't working as well.
Errin may interfere with certain laboratory tests (such as sex hormone-binding globulin, thyroid) leading to incorrect test results. Make sure laboratory staff and all doctors know if the patient is taking Errin.

4. Note about side effects of Errin and precautions when using it

4.1. Unwanted effects

Possible side effects include: Nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, tightness in the chest or weight gain. In addition, vaginal bleeding between periods or missed or irregular periods may occur. If any of these effects persist or become more severe, tell your doctor or pharmacist right away. If you miss 2 periods in a row (or 1 period because you haven't used the pill correctly), contact your doctor to take a pregnancy test.
Patients need to keep in mind that the doctor prescribed Errin because they judged the benefits to outweigh the risk of side effects. Many people use Errin without serious side effects.
Errin may increase the patient's blood pressure. Check your blood pressure often and tell your doctor right away if the results are high.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: A lump in your chest, mental or mood changes (such as new or worsening depression), pain stomach pain, severe abdominal pain, unusual vaginal bleeding (such as continuous bleeding, sudden heavy bleeding, missed periods), dark urine, yellow eyes, jaundice.
Errin rarely causes serious (sometimes fatal) problems with blood clots (such as deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, stroke). Get medical help right away if any of the following side effects occur: Pain in the chest, jaw, or left arm; confusion, dizziness, or sudden fainting; pain, swelling, warmth in the groin or calf; trouble speaking, sudden shortness of breath, or rapid breathing; unusual headaches (including headaches with vision changes or lack of coordination, migraines that get worse, sudden or very severe headaches), unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, vision problems or changes (such as double vision, partial blindness, total blindness).
Very serious allergic reactions to the use of Errin are very rare. However, patients or family members should seek immediate medical help if they notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, difficulty breathing, itching, or swelling (especially face, tongue, throat), severe dizziness.
The above is not a complete list of all undesirable effects that may occur when using Errin. If you notice any other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist for further instructions.

4.2. Preventive measures

Before taking Errin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to norethindrone; or other progestins; or if you are allergic to any other medications. Errin may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Patients need to talk to the pharmacist for more specific, detailed information.
Before using Errin, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: Blood clots (eg, in the legs, eyes, lungs), blood clotting disorders (such as anemia). protein C or protein S deficiency), high blood pressure, abnormal breast exams, cancer (especially endometrial or breast cancer), low "good" (HDL) cholesterol, depression, diabetes sugar, severe headache or migraine, heart problems (such as heart valve disease, irregular heartbeat, previous heart attack), history of yellowing eyes, jaundice during pregnancy or while use of hormonal birth control (such as the pill, patch), liver disease (including tumors), unexplained vaginal bleeding.
Smoking increases your risk of stroke, heart attack, blood clots, and high blood pressure from hormonal birth control (such as the pill, patch, ring). The risk of these serious problems increases with age and the number of cigarettes smoked. Therefore, the patient should not smoke or use tobacco.
The patient needs to inform the doctor if having surgery or will be sitting in a bed or chair for long periods of time (such as a long plane ride). These conditions increase the risk of blood clots, especially if the patient is using hormonal contraception. Patients may need to stop taking Errin for a while or take special precautions.
Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all products you are using (including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines and herbal supplements).
Errin may cause darkened areas of the face and skin (pigmentation). Sunlight can make this condition worse. Patients should limit time in the sun as much as possible, use sunscreen regularly, and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
Errin should not be used during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately for specific advice.
Errin may be excreted in breast milk in small amounts and have undesirable effects on the nursing infant. Patients should consult their doctor before breast-feeding.
