Instructions for using Prospan cough syrup, lozenges for children

Currently in the Vietnamese market, the Drug Administration of Vietnam has issued registration numbers for 03 different Prospan cough medicines:

Packaged and shipped with the same company: Engelhard Arzneimittel GmbH & Co. KG- Address: Herzbergstr. 3, 61138 Niederdorfenden, Germany

Dried ivy leaf extract (Hederae helicis folii extractum siccum) extracted with ethanol 30% at the ratio (5-7.5)/1 - weight depends on type:
Lozenges - 26mg dried syrup Syro - 700mg dried extract/100ml oral solution – 35mg dry high/5ml And excipients depending on the dosage form.

Prospan cough medicine has the effect of clearing mucus, reducing spasms, and reducing cough. Therefore, the drug is used in acute respiratory infections with cough and symptomatic treatment in chronic bronchitis diseases.
Depending on the dosage form of the drug, the specific target audience according to the manufacturer's information is as follows:
Prospan Lozenges and Oral Solution: For children from 6 years of age and adults Prospan Syrup: For children from infants, adolescents, adults

Prospan Syrup form:
Infants and children: 2.5ml x 3 times daily School-aged children and adolescents: 5mL x 3 times daily. Adults: 5-7ml x 3 times per day Note: Shake the bottle well before use
Dosage form Prospan lozenges:
Swallow the medicine to dissolve slowly in the mouth, do not suck the medicine while lying down. Adults and children 12 years and older: Take 1 tablet x 4 times/day. Children from 6-11 years old: Take 1 tablet x 2 times/day. Dosage form Prospan oral solution:
Children 6-11 years old: 1 bag (5ml) x2 times/day; Children over 12 years old: 1 bag (5ml) x 3 times daily.

Length of medication recommended by the manufacturer: Depends on the severity of the symptoms, but should be taken for at least a week, even if you have a mild respiratory infection. To ensure successful treatment, the drug should be taken for an additional 2 to 3 days after the symptoms have resolved. In case the disease persists with a persistent cough and difficulty breathing, fever, purulent or bloody sputum, consult a doctor immediately.
Medicines containing Sorbitol should be contraindicated in cases of fructose intolerance.
In case of pregnant or lactating women who need to take medicine, it is necessary to have a doctor's instruction and prescription.
