Uses of Avigrel

Afigrel is an antiplatelet agent used alone or in combination to prevent thrombosis. Thereby helping to reduce events such as myocardial infarction, stroke caused by thrombosis. To use the drug safely, please refer to the information below.

1. What is Afigrel?

Afigrel drug has the main ingredient is Clopidogrel with a strength of 75mg, made in the form of tablets. Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent that acts by irreversible alteration of the platelet ADP receptor. Platelets are one of the sticky blood cells that help form thrombus, which helps to reduce bleeding in cases of hemorrhage, but it also contributes to coronary artery occlusion in high-risk subjects. By preventing platelet aggregation, Clopidogrel reduces the risk of thrombosis in atherosclerotic vascular lumen. Thereby reducing the events caused by thrombosis such as myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular accident, pulmonary embolism ...
Clopidogrel is a precursor form, after the patient takes an oral dose, Clopidogrel quickly It is mainly absorbed and metabolised in the liver into two active and inactive forms, and then the active form exerts an antiplatelet effect.

2. Uses of the drug Afigrel

Afigrel, thanks to its antiplatelet effect, is used in the following cases:
Reduce or prevent thrombotic events in atherosclerotic disease such as myocardial infarction, stroke, ear disease. cerebrovascular accident in patients with a history of atherosclerosis. Used for people with a history of atherosclerosis with manifestations such as myocardial infarction (within a few days to less than 35 days), stroke, ischemia (from 7 days to less than 6 months) or in case of Peripheral artery disease has been identified. Use in combination with aspirin in patients with unstable angina syndrome or in myocardial infarction without Q waves.

3. Dosage and usage of the drug Afigrel

3.1 How to take Afigrel tablet whole with a full glass of water, do not chew or crush the tablet. The medicine can be taken with or without meals.
3.2 Dosage Dosage of Afigrel for adults and the elderly: Use with a dose of 1 tablet (75 mg / time / day). Dosage of Afigrel in patients with unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction: Initiate 4 tablets (300 mg)/day first. Then continue to use at a dose of 75 mg / day (usually used in combination with Aspirin 75 - 325 mg / day) in the following days. Children: There are no data on the safety and efficacy of Afigrel in patients under 18 years of age.
3.3 Overdose and Missed Dose Overdose: In a trial in healthy volunteers, no adverse effects were reported with a single dose of 600 mg Clopidogrel (equivalent to 8 75 mg tablets).
However, bleeding time can be increased 1.7 times compared to 75mg/day, and some people have acute poisoning symptoms such as vomiting, exhaustion, shortness of breath, and condition gastrointestinal bleeding. There is currently no specific antidote for Clopidogrel, and on the basis of reliable biological evidence that prompt platelet transfusion can reverse the pharmacokinetic effects of Clopidogrel.
Missed dose: Take Afigrel as soon as you remember. However, if the interval between the next dose is too short, skip the missed dose directly and continue with your dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Side effects of the drug Afigrel

When using Afigrel, you may experience unwanted effects including:
Signs of bleeding such as: gastrointestinal bleeding, hematoma, bruising on the skin, nosebleeds, intracranial hemorrhage , bloody urine, eye bleeding, heavy bleeding during menstrual cycle. Abdominal pain, loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, gastritis, rash, and itching may also occur. When you experience side effects of the drug or suspect that it is due to the drug, you should stop using it and notify your doctor or immediately go to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment.

5. Notes when using Avigrel

Before using Afigrel, you need to carefully read the instructions for use of the drug and the following things to note:
Contraindication of Afigrel in the following cases: Hypersensitivity to Clopidogrel or to any of its ingredients ; Bleeding due to active disease such as gastrointestinal bleeding, retinal hemorrhage or intracranial hemorrhage; Patients with severe liver failure. Use caution when using the drug for the following subjects: Patients at risk of bleeding due to trauma, surgery or other bleeding diseases; This drug should be discontinued within 7 days prior to surgery; Patients who take the drug longer than usual must stop taking the drug when seeing abnormal bleeding and immediately report it to the treating doctor; Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy: Experiments in rabbits and rats have not revealed an effect of clopidogrel on the fetus. However, no studies have been conducted in pregnant women. Therefore, clopidogrel should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed. Lactation: Animal studies have shown that clopidogrel and its metabolites are excreted in milk. To date, it is not known whether clopidogrel is excreted in human milk. Therefore, consideration should be given to discontinuing breast-feeding during clopidogrel or stopping clopidogrel, depending on the extent to which the drug is necessary in the nursing mother.

6. Drug interactions

Some possible drug interactions when taking the drug include:
Caution should be taken when taking Clopidogrel in combination with Aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, heparin, thrombolytics because this has the potential to increase the risk of blood clots. bleeding muscle. Clopidogrel with Warfarin should not be used in combination because it increases the severity of bleeding. Clopidogrel is an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 CYP2C19, so it will affect drugs metabolized by this enzyme such as Phenytoin, Corticoids, Propranolol,... Some recent studies show that drugs have proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) effects. Clopidogrel reduces the antiplatelet effect of Clopidogrel, however, there is no clear evidence of this interaction, so the two drugs should be combined only when absolutely necessary. Afigrel should be kept in a cool place, protected from light, at a temperature below 300C. Keep medicine out of reach of children. The antiplatelet drug Afigrel is used under the direction and strict supervision of a doctor. Do not self-medicate or stop taking it without consulting your doctor.
