2. Uses of Carbamaz

3. How should Carbamaz be used and what dosage should be used?


Drugs in the form of tablets should be absorbed in oral form, can be taken with or without meals. In case of difficulty swallowing, you can break the tablet in half.
Recommended dosage:
In adults and the elderly:
Monotherapy: At the start, usually a dose of 600mg/day (8 - 10mg/kg/day) in two divided doses. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose to find the dose that's right for you. The best therapeutic effect is found at a dose of 600 - 2400mg/day; Multitherapy: Apply dosage equivalent to monotherapy; In children from 4 to 16 years old: The starting dose is 8 -10mg/kg/day, divided into 2 times. The best dose achieved will depend on weight. Your doctor will gradually increase your dose to find the best maintenance dose for you.
In patients with liver or kidney failure:
For people with mild or moderate liver failure, no dosage change is required, can be applied as normal people. Currently, there is no evidence for the use of Oxcarbazepine in people with severe hepatic impairment; For people with renal failure: The starting dose should only be applied at 1/2 the normal dose, ie 300mg/day. Dosage may be titrated up to the desired clinical response.

4. When should Carbamaz not be used?


Do not use the drug for people who are allergic or sensitive to Oxcarbazepine or other ingredients in the drug (the specific ingredient list is clearly stated in the package insert inside the drug).

5. Some side effects may be encountered when using the drug


Common side effects such as: Fatigue, drowsiness, double vision, nausea, vomiting, rash, dizziness, headache.
Rare but serious side effects, if you encounter them, you need to tell your doctor right away such as: loss of consciousness (symptoms of hyponatremia), confusion, seizures, loss of appetite (symptoms of pancreatitis), heaviness in the abdomen , rash or flu-like symptoms with jaundice (possibly hepatitis), unusual bleeding or bruising (possibly due to thrombocytopenia), blistering of the skin or eyes, nose and lips (possibly due to thrombocytopenia).
