Uses of Dutaon

Dutaon belongs to the group of supportive drugs in the treatment of urinary tract diseases, with the main ingredient being the active ingredient Dutasteride. So what should patients pay attention to when using Dutaon brand-name drug? Let's find out information about Dutaon drug through the following article.

1. What is Dutaon?

Dutaon belongs to the group of supportive drugs in the treatment of urinary tract diseases, with the main active ingredient being Dutasteride 0.5mg. The ingredients and excipients are just enough for 1 capsule.
Dutaon drug is prepared in the form of soft, oblong, opaque yellow capsules. The drug is packaged in a box of 10 blisters x 10 tablets.

2. What are the effects of Dutaon?

Dutaon drug is composed by the main active ingredient is Dutasteride with specific effects as follows:
2.1. Pharmacodynamics Active ingredient Dutasteride works by preventing the conversion of testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) - which plays a role in prostate tissue hyperplasia. 2.2. Pharmacokinetics Absorption: Dutasteride is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak serum concentrations after 1-3 hours. Bioavailability is about 60%. Distribution: Dutasteride has been reported to have a large volume of distribution. Dutasteride is highly bound to plasma albumin (99%) and alpha-1 acid glycoprotein (96.6%). The half-life is long, 4-6 months after treatment discontinuation, detectable serum concentrations (>0.1 ng/ml). Elimination: Approximately 5% of Dutasteride as unchanged drug and 40% as Dutasteride-related metabolites are excreted in the feces. Small amounts of Dutasteride (<1%) unchanged were recovered in the urine. The half-life of Dutasteride is 3 - 5 weeks. Dutaon is indicated for the treatment and prevention of the progression of benign prostatic hyperplasia through:
Reducing symptoms of the disease. Reduce prostate size. Helps improve urine circulation. Reducing the risk of acute urinary retention, reducing the need for surgery related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

3. How to use Dutaon:

3.1. How to use Dutaon: For Dutaon, patients use it orally. Users swallow the capsule whole, do not chew or open the tablet because contact with the substances contained in the capsule can cause irritation of the oropharyngeal mucosa.
Dutaon can be taken with or without meals.
3.2. Dosage of Dutaon: The recommended dose of Dutaon is as follows:
Adults: The recommended dose is 0.5mg/day. Treatment depends on the clinical response of the patient. A minimum of 6 months of treatment is required in order to objectively assess whether a satisfactory treatment response has been achieved. For patients with renal impairment: No dose adjustment is required. For patients with hepatic impairment: The effect of hepatic impairment on the pharmacokinetics of Dutasteride has not been studied. No dose adjustment is required for patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment. 3.3. How to deal with forgetting, overdosing Missed dose:
There are no documents showing adverse effects when forgetting a dose of Dutaon. However, patients need to use the full therapeutic dose as directed by the doctor to ensure the most accurate drug effect.
Overdose:
Because there is no specific antidote to Dutasteride, when symptoms are suspected due to Dutaon overdose, appropriate supportive measures should be used to treat symptoms.
3.4. Contraindications to Dutaon: Do not use Dutaon in the following cases:
Cases where the patient is allergic, sensitive to Dutasteride or any of its ingredients. Cases of hypersensitivity to 5 alpha reductase inhibitors. The patient has severe liver failure. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Children.

4. Note when using the drug Dutaon

Warnings and precautions when using Dutaon:
Pregnant women and young children avoid contact with broken capsules because Dutasteride is absorbed through the skin. If so, wash exposed areas thoroughly with soap and water immediately. Dutasteride should be used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment because Dutasteride is extensively metabolized by the liver and has a half-life of 3 to 5 weeks. Do not donate blood while using Dutaon or if necessary, stop using the drug before 6 months to ensure it is safe to donate blood. Combination therapy with tamsulosin and heart failure: In clinical studies, the incidence of heart failure was higher in patients receiving the combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin than in patients not receiving the combination therapy. Breast cancer risk: Has been reported in some men taking Dutasteride. Physicians should instruct patients to promptly report any changes in their breast tissue. A clear relationship between the occurrence of breast cancer in men and long-term use of Dutasteride has not been established. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Preclinical data suggest that inhibition of DHT intake may inhibit external gonadal development in male embryos during maternal administration of Dutasteride. It is not known whether Dutasteride is excreted in human milk. Drivers and Machines: Treatment with Dutasteride does not affect the ability to drive and use machines. Side effects when using Dutaon:
When using Dutaon, the following undesirable effects may occur:
Immune system disorders: Allergic reactions, including rash, urticaria, itching. , localized edema and angioedema. Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Alopecia (mainly hair), hirsutism. Sexual dysfunction: Impotence, decreased sexual ability or desire, decreased semen volume during ejaculation, and male breast disorders. Dutaon interactions and incompatibilities:
Concomitant administration of Dutaon with calcium channel blockers will inhibit cytochrome P450 CYP3A4 (Diltiazem, Verapamil) resulting in decreased clearance of Dutasteride and increased exposure to Dutasteride.
Monitoring is required when Dutaon is used concomitantly with drugs that affect liver microsomal enzymes (such as ritonavir, Ketoconazole, Diltiazem, Cimetidine and Ciprofloxacin).
Storage of Dutaon: Store Dutaon at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep the medicine in a closed container, in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and avoid direct sunlight.
