Uses of Intralipos

1. What are the effects of Intralipos?

2. Dosage and how to take Intralipos


Usage: Intralipos is prepared as an intravenous emulsion-20% and is intended for intravenous use.
Dosage:
IV infusion of 500mL Intralipos 10% or 250 mL Intralipos 20% over at least 3 hours. For adults and children, use 1-2 g/kg/day. For children < 2 years old, the dose is 2 - 3 g/kg/day. For infants > 2 weeks old, the dose is from 1 to 1.5 g/kg/day. For children < 2 weeks old, the dose is from 0.5 to 0.6 g/kg/day. Contraindications:
Do not use for patients with thrombosis problems. Do not use for patients with severe liver failure and coagulation disorders and hyperlipidemia. Do not use for patients with diabetes or a history of diabetes.

3. Side effects of Intralipos


Some undesirable effects that patients may experience include: phlebitis, pain in the blood vessels and a tendency to bleed. Less frequent reactions such as venous thrombosis, hypotension, tachycardia, tachypnea, and shortness of breath. Less common side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea.
Some reactions may be encountered after a period of using the drug: Hepatomegaly, jaundice due to cholestasis, splenomegaly, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia.

4. Use Intralipos with caution


When using Intralipos, patients should monitor their ability to remove fat from the circulatory system using an appropriate method of serum triglyceride determination. Overdosage of the drug must be avoided.
During the course of using the drug, the patient needs to perform liver function tests. If liver damage or function is affected, the patient should consider discontinuing the drug.
It is advisable to check the platelet count frequently in neonatal patients receiving intravenous drugs with Intralipid.
For pregnant women: There are no human and animal clinical studies on the potential effects of the drug on pregnant women. Therefore, the safety of the drug has not been evaluated. Therefore, Intralipos should be used with caution in pregnant women.
For women who are breastfeeding: Need to consult a doctor.
The aluminum component in the drug can be toxic when administered intravenously for a long time, if the patient has impaired kidney function. Babies born prematurely are especially at risk, because their kidneys are not fully developed. Therefore, it is especially important not to use Intralipos for these two patients.

5. Intralipos drug interactions
