Uses of Isentress

ISENTRESS is an HIV medication prescribed for use with other antiretroviral medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) infection in adults and children with at least 4.4 pounds (2 kg). Read the article below to get more information about this drug.

Take Isentress by mouth with or without food as prescribed by your doctor. Dosage reference: 2 tablets (400mg) / day / 2 times.
The correct dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Tell your doctor about all other medications and supplements you take (including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal products).
According to the manufacturer's instructions, when taking, swallow the tablet whole. However, many drugs like tablets are released immediately, so can be broken down/crushed.
Avoid using antacids containing aluminum or magnesium while taking Isentress. These antacids can make Isentress work less effectively. It is very important to continue taking this and other HIV medicines exactly as prescribed by your doctor, you must not skip any doses.
Do not increase your dose or use this medicine more often or for longer than indicated in the prescription. Your condition will not improve any faster and comes with an increased risk of side effects.
Do not take less of this medicine than prescribed or stop taking it or other HIV medicines even for a short time, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Doing so will likely increase the viral load and make the infection worse, making it harder to treat (drug resistance).
For the best effect, take this medicine at evenly spaced times. To help you remember your dose, take this medicine at the same time each day. Do not convert between film-coated tablets, chewable tablets, or powder sachets into the oral suspension form of Isentress without first consulting your doctor or pharmacist.

When using Isentress, some side effects such as: Headache, nausea and trouble sleeping may occur. If any of these effects persist or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist right away.
Isentress is this medicine that was prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Some people who use this medicine have no serious side effects.
As your immune system becomes stronger, it can start fighting the infections you already have. In addition, you may also have some symptoms if your immune system becomes overactive. This reaction can happen any time, right after you start HIV treatment or months later.
When overreaction occurs, get medical help right away. Reactions include:
Unexplained weight loss, severe fatigue, joint pain, numbness in hands and feet, tingling hands/feet/arms/legs, muscle pain/weakness that doesn't go away, severe headache severe or non-disappearing Vision changes Signs of infection (such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, trouble breathing, cough, chills, skin sores that do not heal) Signs of an overactive thyroid (such as such as irritability, nervousness, heat intolerance, fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat, bulging eyes, an abnormal growth in the neck/thyroid gland called a goiter). Signs of a certain neurological problem called Guillain-Barre syndrome (such as unsteadiness, loss of coordination, trouble swallowing/speaking/chewing, trouble moving eyes ). Nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop, signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine), loss of appetite, severe stomach/abdominal pain, dark urine, yellowing eyes/skin. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking Isentress. For example, increased fat in the upper back and stomach area, decreased fat in the arms and legs). The cause and long-term effects of these changes are still unknown.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug Isentress is very rare. However, when using the drug, you also need to be very careful. Before using this medicine, tell your treating doctor your medical history, especially of: liver disease (such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C), muscle disorders (such as rhabdomyolysis, muscle), high blood creatine kinase levels (high CK test results).
Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal products).
During pregnancy, this medicine should be used only when clearly needed and under the advice of a doctor. Treatment can reduce your child's risk of passing HIV, and Isentress can be part of that treatment. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Currently, there are no studies to show whether this medicine passes into breast milk. Because breast milk can transmit HIV, breastfeeding is not recommended.
