Uses of Prome-NIC
Prome-NIC is an antiallergic drug whose main ingredient is Promethazine hydrochloride 10mg. Let's find out information, ingredients and how to use the drug right in the following article.
1. Uses of Prome-NIC
Prome-NIC is an antiallergic drug, the drug is made in the form of sugar coated tablets with the main ingredient in each tablet is Promethazine hydrochloride 10mg.
Promethazine is a phenothiazine derivative structurally different from the antipsychotic phenothiazines in the side-chain and without a ring substitution. Scientists believe that this configuration causes Promethazine to reduce dopaminergic effects in the central nervous system (only 1/10 of the effect of clopromazine). Promethazine has two main effects that are antihistamine and strong sedative. However, it can also paradoxically stimulate or inhibit the central nervous system. Central nervous system depression with sedation is common when therapeutic doses of antihistamines are used. In addition, Promethazine also has antiemetic, anti motion sickness and local anesthetic, anticholinergic effects. In particular, this active ingredient also has a mild antitussive effect, showing the ability to inhibit respiration.
Promethazine is an H1-receptor blocker due to contention with histamine for the positions of H1-receptors on effector cells. However, it does not prevent the release of histamine, so it only works to block the reactions caused by histamine. Promethazine has antagonistic effects to varying degrees. This active ingredient is used in pre-anesthesia, before procedures that can cause the release of histamine. In addition, the anticholinergic effect of Promethazine also causes dryness of the nose and oral mucosa. Promethazine is anticholinergic, blocking the response to acetylcholine via the muscarinic receptor. Promethazine's antiemetic, anti-motion sickness and anti-vertigo effects are due to central anticholinergic effects on the vestibule, on the vomiting center, and on the chemoreceptor trigger region of the midbrain. The mild antitussive effect of this active substance may be due to its anticholinergic and CNS depressant properties. Promethazine and other phenothiazines have alpha adrenergic blocking effects, so there is a risk of orthostatic hypotension.
