1. What is Santax?


Santax drug belongs to the group of anti-parasitic, anti-infective, anti-viral, anti-fungal drugs. The drug has the active ingredient Cefotaxime used in the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections.
Santax drug is prepared in the form of a powder for injection and is packaged in a box of 1 vial and 1 tube of distilled water for injection.

2. What are the effects of Santax?


Santax medicine is used in the treatment of patients with severe infections caused by the following susceptible bacteria:
Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia Treatment of urinary tract infections Urology Treatment of gynecological infections including endocarditis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and pelvic cellulitis. Treatment of blood infections. Treatment of intra-abdominal infections including peritonitis. Treatment of bone and joint infections. Treatment of central nervous system infections such as meningitis, encephalitis. Prophylactic treatment before surgery to avoid infection for patients having surgery such as: hysterectomy, abdominal surgery, genitourinary surgery, gastrointestinal surgery. Prophylactic treatment of patients with caesarean section, during and after surgery can use drugs to reduce the possibility of infection.

3. Dosage - How to take Santax


3.1. How to use Intramuscular: The patient dissolves 1g of Cefotaxime with 3ml of sterile distilled water for injection. Intravenous injection: Dissolve 1g of Cefotaxime with at least 4mk of sterile distilled water for injection. Intravenous infusion: Dissolve 1-2g of Cefotaxime in 50 to 100ml of solution for infusion. Prevention of phlebitis: Injection or slow intravenous infusion is recommended. Intramuscular analgesia: Mix Lidocaine with Cefotaxime before injection. 3.2. Dosage Adults:
Uncomplicated infections 1g Cefotaxime/12 hours, IM or IV. Severe infections, meningitis 2g Cefotaxime/6 - 8 hours, IM or IV. Uncomplicated gonorrhea single dose of 1g Cefotaxime, IM injection. Prevention of surgical infections 1g Cefotaxime, injected 30 minutes before surgery. Children:
Children 2 months or < 12 years old 50 mg - 150 mg Cefotaxime/kg/day, divided into 3-4 times, IM or IV. Newborn > 7 days 75 - 150 mg Cefotaxime/kg/day, divided into 3 times, IV injection. Premature infants & neonates < 7 days 50 mg Cefotaxime/kg/day, divided into 2 times, IV injection. Renal impairment ClCr < 10mL: Reduce dose of Cefotaxime by half.
Prophylactic treatment of postoperative infections:
Should be injected with 1g of Cefotaxime 30-90 minutes before surgery. In case of caesarean section, the first dose of Cefotaxime is injected into the mother's vein with 1g as soon as the umbilical cord is clamped and after 6-12 hours, two more doses of Cefotaxime are injected intramuscularly or intravenously. Usually, the duration of treatment will depend on the type of infection and is usually used for a minimum of 48-72 hours after the patient has no fever or no signs of infection. 4. Contraindication to taking Santax


Do not use Santax for patients with hypersensitivity to Cefotaxime or antibiotics of the Cephalosporin group, pregnant and lactating women.

5. Santax drug interactions


Santax drug when combined with some drugs can cause drug interactions such as:
Aminoglycoside antibiotics and diuretics because Cefotaxime can increase the nephrotoxic effect of these drugs. . Probenecid used with Cefotaxime will reduce the renal tubular elimination of Cefotaxime. The dose of Cefotaxime should be adjusted in patients with renal impairment. Cefotaxime in combination with the drugs Azlocillin and Mezlocillin will reduce the clearance of Cefotaxime in patients with normal renal function as well as in those with impaired renal function. In this case, the dose of Cefotaxime should be reduced. Do not combine alkaline solutions (sodium bicarbonate solution) with Cefotaxime, so when making intravenous solutions, solutions with pH 5-7 such as sodium chloride 0.9% or dextrose 5% should be used. Cefotaxime alone should not be administered concomitantly with metronidazoles or aminoglycosides. Probenecid drug.

6. Side effects when using Santax drug treatment
