1. What is Ovalax?

2. Instructions for using Ovalax


How to use:
Ovalax is produced in the form of film-coated tablets, so do not break or chew the tablets before taking.
Do not take the drug with milk or gastric acid antacids (take 1 hour apart).
Take medicine in the evening.
Ovalax brand-name drug can be used for all ages, but should not be used for children under 6 years old.
Dosage in the treatment of constipation:
Adults and children over 10 years old: Take 1-2 tablets/day in the evening. Sometimes a higher dose (3 - 4 tablets) can be used if necessary. Elderly: use adult dose. Children 6 - 10 years old: Take 1 capsule/day in the evening. Children under 6 years old: should not be taken because the tablet must be swallowed whole. Used to prepare for X-ray colonoscopy:
Adults and children over 10 years old: Take 2 tablets every night for 2 consecutive nights before the scan. Children 6 - 10 years old: Take 1 tablet every night for 2 consecutive nights before the scan. Clear bowel before and after surgery:
As directed by the doctor.

3. Contraindications to the use of Ovalax


Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the drug. The patient had bowel obstruction, unexplained abdominal pain, acute abdominal surgery (appendicitis), rectal bleeding, and gastroenteritis. Severe dehydration.

4. Side effects when using Ovalax


Usually occurs in the gastrointestinal tract about 15 - 25%.
Common: Abdominal pain, abdominal cramps, nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, vomiting.
Uncommon: Rectal irritation. There is discomfort in the anus, rectum, blood in the stool.
Rare:
Colitis . Hypersensitivity reactions to the drug may occur such as angioedema, anaphylactoid reactions. Undesirable effects can be reduced by reducing the dose. Inform your doctor about any unwanted effects you may experience while using the drug.

5. Dealing with missed doses or overdoses


If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the scheduled time. Do not take double the prescribed dose.

6. Other Notes


For pregnant and lactating women: There are currently no adequate and well-controlled studies on the effects of bisacodyl on pregnant women. Also, clinical data indicate that neither the active form of bisacodyl nor its glucuronide conjugate is excreted in human milk. However, it is best not to use Ovalax during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester and during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits and risks. Ovalax should not be used for more than 5 days until the cause of constipation is found. Prolonged use of Ovalax can lead to water and electrolyte imbalance and hypokalemia. Intestinal dehydration can be harmful to people with kidney failure and the elderly. Therefore, caution should be exercised when administering this drug to this population. Prolonged use of the drug can cause loss of muscle tone, decreased bowel activity. When taking the medicine, you may see blood in the stool but it usually goes away on its own. Children under 10 years of age need to consult a medical professional, should not use the drug for children under 4 years old because the dosage form is not suitable. This medicine contains lactose. Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the deficiency of the enzyme lapp-lactase or the abnormal absorption of glucose-galactose should not take this medicine.
