What are the signs of frequent red and watery eyes?
Question
Doctor, I often have red eyes (usually once every 3 months), or watery eyes if I look at the screen of the phone or TV for too long. The eye will heal after almost a week. It first appeared in one eye and then spread to both eyes. I went to a private eye hospital and used eye drops and took it for 2 weeks to recover, but then relapsed. Once, it lasted for a few days and went away on its own, without any medication. I hope you can advise me what this disease is and how to treat it. Thank you doctor!

Answer
Hello! According to the information I provided, my eyes are chronically inflamed with conjunctivitis, so they are often red. When the conjunctiva is chronically inflamed, there is decreased tear production because the accessory lacrimal glands located in the conjunctiva are damaged, leading to dry eyes. For your eyes, you should use artificial tears without preservatives daily and clean your eyes with physiological saline to keep your eyes clean and healthy.
If your eye condition still shows no signs of improvement, you should go to a hospital under Vinmec Health System to be examined in detail by a doctor and given a more specific treatment plan. Thank you for trusting and sharing your concerns with Vinmec. I wish you good health always. Best regards.
