Kristalose drug: Uses, indications and precautions when using

Constipation is a very common disease for all ages. In addition to adjusting your diet and lifestyle habits, you may need to use laxatives. One of the most commonly used drugs is lactulose (trade name Kristalose). So what does Kristalose do?

What effect does Kristalose have? In fact, Kristalose is a laxative used to treat constipation. Kristalose has the effect of increasing the number of bowel movements per day as well as increasing the number of bowel movements. Lactulose is the main active ingredient of the drug Kristalose, which has an acidic effect on the large intestine environment, increasing the amount of water in the stool and softening the stool. Lactulose is essentially a solution of artificial sugar.

Kristalose is taken by mouth, usually once a day for constipation or as directed by your doctor. If you are taking Kristalose, you can improve the taste by mixing it with juice, water, milk... To completely dissolve the crystals in the Kristalose package, you need to use about 120 ml. or as directed by your doctor.
Use Kristalose medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. The dose of Kristalose is based on the individual patient's constipation and response to therapy. It may take up to 48 hours for a person to have a bowel movement after using Kristalose. Therefore, notify your doctor if constipation persists or worsens.

Patients may experience unwanted effects of Kristalose such as flatulence, belching, bloating, stomach rumbling or pain, nausea and cramps. If any of the symptoms of Kristalose persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately. Tell your doctor right away if you have these uncommon but serious side effects of Kristalose such as:
Diarrhea; Vomiting; Muscle cramps/muscle weakness; Irregular heartbeat; Mood/mental changes; Convulsions ; Severe abdominal or stomach pain that persists; Bloody stools; Rectal bleeding. A serious allergic reaction to Kristalose is very unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: generalized rash, itching with swelling of body parts (especially face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Before treating constipation with Kristalose, the doctor must make sure that the patient is not allergic to lactulose and any of its ingredients. Kristalose medicinal products may contain inactive ingredients and cause allergic reactions or other problems.
Kristalose should not be used if the patient has certain medical problems. Before using Kristalose, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have a history of problems such as:
Low galactose diet (e.g. a diet that includes little or no product milk); Certain other bowel problems (such as bowel obstruction). Before using Kristalose, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially diabetes.
The elderly may be more at risk of losing electrolytes (such as potassium and sodium) when using Kristalose, especially when used for a long time. Do not take any other laxatives while taking Kristalose. Regular use or abuse of laxatives can cause severe dehydration, which is especially common in children or the elderly. Contact your doctor as soon as you notice the symptoms of dehydration: muscle weakness, muscle cramps, dizziness.
Drug Kristalose is essentially a sugar solution. If a patient has diabetes, taking this medicine can affect blood sugar levels, so it's important to check your blood sugar regularly and share the results with your doctor. The doctor may need to adjust the patient's diabetes medications, exercise program, or diet accordingly.
During pregnancy, Kristalose should be used only when clearly needed after discussing the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known that Kristalose passes into breast milk, so patients should consult their doctor before breast-feeding.

Before using Kristalose, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all herbal products, prescription and nonprescription oral medications the patient is taking, especially of: antacids that contain aluminum and/or magnesium, other laxatives. Kristalose overdose symptoms may include: severe stomach cramps, diarrhea.
If a patient is on Kristalose for a long time, blood mineral levels should be tested periodically to monitor disease progression or check for Kristalose side effects. If the patient misses a dose of Kristalose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose of Kristalose, skip the missed dose, do not double it.
Store Kristalose at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C), away from light and moisture, and do not freeze Kristalose as this will make it too thick. If Kristalose has frozen, warm it to room temperature until it can return to normal. Dark medication may be considered normal however if the color is too dark and the patient feels unable to swallow, discard the medication and re-apply. Do not flush Kristalose down the toilet or pour it down the drain, dispose of it appropriately when it has expired or is no longer needed.
Kristalose is a laxative used to treat constipation. To ensure the effectiveness of the treatment, the patient must take the drug exactly as directed by the doctor or pharmacist.
