Ask
Hello doctor! I have liver flukes and have been treated in Quy Nhon, after 3 months of re-examination, the liver flukes are gone and liver enzymes are high. I did not drink alcohol for 3 months but when I had ultrasound, I had a large amount of abdominal effusion and bilateral pleural effusion, the doctor gave me a prescription to drink for another month, while my abdomen was enlarged and went away. standing very hard. Please ask the doctor if the liver fluke causes abdominal effusion and pleural effusion on both sides, can you aspirate the fluid if taking medicine does not help? Thank you doctor!

Hi, it's not clear if your medical description is correct, how old are you? Normally, liver flukes often develop differently, rarely presenting with cirrhosis - liver failure (causing multi-membrane effusion as described). In case of long-term biliary tract parasites related to biliary tract cancer, causing new biliary obstruction, cirrhosis of the liver... should be examined specifically for appropriate treatment.
You can register for an examination at a hospital of Vinmec Health System to be examined and consulted by qualified doctors.
Thank you for trusting and sending the question "Can the liver fluke cause abdominal effusion and pulmonary effusion on both sides if it doesn't help, can I aspirate the fluid?" to Vinmec. Best regards!
