Hello. A breast abscess is an infection of the breast caused by bacteria. The disease is common in women in the postpartum period and breastfeeding.
Breast abscess is very dangerous at the stage that has formed an abscess when the patient suffers from severe skin lesions and shows systemic infection. If not treated in time, the mammary gland may lose its lactation function, necrosis, and in more severe cases, there may be complications of sepsis, kidney failure or limb necrosis.
When you have a breast abscess, you need to be careful:
Get plenty of rest. Eat soft, easy-to-digest foods, but ensure enough nutrition. Do not breastfeed on the breast with abscess, but should breastfeed on the non-abscessed side or express milk to breastfeed to avoid infection for the baby. Gently massage, apply heat, express milk to support milk ducts. Take antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, pain relievers and fever reducers as prescribed by your doctor. Thank you for your question to Vinmec Health System. Best regards.
