Oral thrush is a common childhood infection that affects the inner cheeks, roof of the mouth, and tongue. While it is fairly treatable, it can be uncomfortable and a cause for concern for new mothers.

The picture of oral thrush is white or yellow patches that appear inside the mouth, especially on the tongue, lips, and roof. This infection will not affect health nor cause pain.

The causative agent is the fungus Candida Albicans. This fungal overgrowth is what causes oral thrush in babies. Some risk factors for oral thrush in babies:

Before starting treatment, you must make sure it is oral thrush. If you notice a similar white patch on your baby's tongue and you can't clear it, it could be milk residue. But if these patches are seen in other spots in its mouth and you can't rub it and clean it, it could be oral thrush. Also, your baby may cry while feeding or while using a pacifier.

Thrush in young children is usually painless, but can be uncomfortable. Your baby may eat less or eat intermittently due to discomfort.
