Symptoms and complications of Zika virus infection

Zika virus is also known as Zika virus disease or Zika virus that causes Zika virus disease. Zika virus is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that occurs mainly in tropical and subtropical areas of the world.

1. Symptoms of Zika

Most people make a full recovery, and zika virus symptoms clear up on their own in about a week. Most cases do not show symptoms of Zika virus infection. However, if present, common Zika virus symptoms include:
Fever; Rash; Athritis; Headache; Red eye conjunctiva; Muscle pain; Pain in the back. According to some experts, the symptoms of Zika virus infection are similar to those of dengue hemorrhagic fever. The sign that helps you distinguish these two diseases is that the fever caused by the Zika virus is usually not too high, a maximum of 38oC.
In most cases, people infected with Zika virus recover and their symptoms improve within 7-12 days.
However, in some more severe cases, the person needs to be treated in a hospital because of neurological disorders and autoimmune disease in people infected with Zika virus.

2. How dangerous is Zika?

Zika virus infection during pregnancy has been linked to miscarriage and microcephaly, a potentially fatal congenital brain condition.
Zika virus can also cause congenital Zika syndrome, which includes these birth defects:
Severe microcephaly with a partially collapsed skull Brain damage and reduction of brain tissue leading to microcephaly eye damage Joint problems, including limited movement Decreased body movement due to too much muscle after feeding The Zika virus can also cause other neurological disorders such as Guillain-Barre syndrome. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a condition in which the body's immune system attacks part of the nervous system. It can be caused by infection with certain viruses and can affect people of all ages. The main symptoms include muscle weakness and a tingling sensation (numbness and itching) in the hands and feet. Severe complications can occur if the respiratory muscles are affected, requiring hospitalization. Most people affected by Guillain-Barré syndrome will recover, although some people may continue to experience effects such as impairment.

3. Prevention

There is no vaccine to protect against the Zika virus. It is recommended that all pregnant women avoid travel to areas with outbreaks of Zika virus. If you have a sexual partner who lives in or has traveled to an area with an outbreak of the Zika virus, you should abstain from sex during pregnancy or use a condom when having sex. During sex, use a condom to reduce the risk of catching or transmitting Zika virus if you or your partner live in or have traveled to an area with an outbreak of Zika virus. Or avoid sex. If you are living or traveling in tropical areas where the Zika virus is common, these tips can help reduce your risk of mosquito bites:
Stay in an air-conditioned or well-screened home. The mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus are most active from morning to night, but they can also bite at night. Consider sleeping under a mosquito net, especially if you're outside. Wear protective clothing. When you enter a mosquito-infested area, wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, socks, and shoes. Use mosquito repellent. Permethrin can be applied to your clothing, shoes, camping gear, and bed nets. You can also buy clothing made with permethrin already in it. For your skin, use an insect repellent containing at least 10% DEET. When used as directed, an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered repellent has been shown to be safe and effective for pregnant and nursing women. Reduce mosquito habitat. Mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus often live in and around homes, breeding in standing water that can collect things like animal dishes, flower pots and used car tires. Reduce breeding environments to reduce mosquito populations.
