A positive CMV IgG test means I have a virus?

Ask
Hello doctor! I am 33 years old this year. At pre-pregnancy checkup, the obstetrician ordered CMV IgG test, the result was positive (>250 AU/Ml) and no IgM. With this result, the obstetrician advised me to treat to bring the above index to a low level, otherwise pregnancy will cause 100% fetal death.
I was very worried and I read the reference on Vinmec's website and found that the advice of the doctor I examined was not reasonable. Vinmec would like to ask for answers and advice for me on whether a positive CMV IgG test is a viral infection and needs treatment? If pregnant will cause fetal death? I sincerely thank the doctor!

Hello! A positive CMV IgG test result without an IgM test does not indicate whether you have the virus. So, if you want to know if you have the virus or not, you need to do more IgM tests. If the case of viral infection, the possibility of affecting the fetus is yes, the extent of the effect depends on each case.
If you still have questions about “CMV IgG test positive, is it a virus infection? “You can go to the hospitals of Vinmec Health System for more specific advice from doctors.
Thank you for trusting Vinmec. Best regards!
