Is it okay to have a PAP test with ASCUS results?

Question
Hello doctor,
I have given birth to 2 children and am trying to have a third child. I had a gynecological examination and a PAP test. The result was squamous epithelial cell abnormalities, squamous cell atypia of undetermined significance (ASCUS), small nuclear adenocarcinomas, and inflammatory cells. Doctor let me ask if the PAP test has ASCUS results? I am very worried, hope the doctor can advise me, thank you doctor.

Answer
Hello,
To the question “Is there a problem with the PAP test with ASCUS results? ", the doctor would like to answer as follows:
The PAP (cervical cell screening) test is a test that checks for abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix. ASCUS is the initiation of changes in the cells of the cervix that are nearly always a sign of HPV infection, but can also be a sign of pre-cancer. ASCUS is the most common form of abnormal PAP test results. You should do more HPV testing and colposcopy to detect abnormal lesions early.
If you still have questions about the PAP test with ASCUS results, you can go to a hospital of Vinmec Health System for further examination and advice. Thank you for trusting and sending questions to Vinmec. Wishing you lots of health.
Best regards!
