According to FDA recommendations, currently only two types of alcohol are approved for use in the production of hand sanitizers: ethyl alcohol (ethanol, alcohol) and 2-propanol (isopropanol) with a minimum concentration of 60%. Anyone should absolutely not buy hand sanitizer containing methyl alcohol and 1-propanol. Therefore, when buying hand sanitizer, you should pay attention to read the product ingredient label to ensure safety.
In fact, methyl alcohol (methanol) if rubbed on the skin or swallowed can cause permanent blindness and death. 1-Propanol (1-propyl alcohol) if swallowed or ingested can also decrease breathing and heart rate, which can eventually lead to death and cause skin irritation when washing hands.

To be on the safe side, keep hand sanitizer out of the reach of children and pets. Accordingly, children should only use hand sanitizer under adult supervision. Don't drink hand sanitizer, which is especially important for toddlers because drinking even a small amount can cause poisoning. In addition, you should not make your own hand sanitizer because improper mixing can make it ineffective or more dangerous, causing skin burns when used.

If you find your hand sanitizer contains harmful ingredients, stop using it and dispose of it in a hazardous waste container. You must not flush or pour hand sanitizer down the drain or mix it with other liquids.
