Uses of Cystadrops

Cystadrops or Cystadrops eye drops are commonly used to treat cystine crystal deposition in the cornea for both adults and children. In today's article, we will learn more about Cystadrops as well as its uses and uses.

1. What is Cystadrops?

Cystadrops is a viscous or thick cystine-depleting ophthalmic solution, commonly indicated in the treatment of cystine crystal deposition in the corneas of both adults and children living with bladder disease. Cystinosis is considered a rare, complicated disease that requires patients to manage many different drugs every day.

2. What are the effects of Cystadrops?

Studies have shown that Cystadrops significantly reduces cystine crystal deposition in the cornea and is the first and only FDA-approved cysteamine dropper formulation for 4 times daily dosing. Cystinosis is a rare inherited condition from birth that causes the accumulation of cystine crystals throughout the body, causing extensive tissue and organ damage, and significant effects on eye. Cysteamine works by reducing the amount of cystine - an amino acid in the body. Cysteamine is used in people with cystinosis (SIS-tin-OH-sis) - a rare genetic condition that causes cystine to build up in the kidneys and many other organs, including the eyes. .
Cystadrops (for the eye) are used to prevent cystine crystals from accumulating in the cornea (surface of the eye). In addition, it may also be used for many other purposes not listed in this medication guide as directed by your doctor.

3. Dosage and usage

3.1. Dosage Cystadrops must not be taken orally, only for the eyes. Patients should carefully read and follow all instructions mentioned on the label or leaflet. The drug is usually given once every hour while the patient is awake and 4 times a day.
In addition, patients should not use Cystadrops while wearing soft contact lenses, because its preservative can permanently stain the lenses. Instead, patients should take the medication at least 15 minutes before wearing contact lenses. Hands should be cleaned before using eye drops.
3.2. How to use To instill, the patient tilts his head back slightly and gently pulls the lower eyelid down with a fingertip to make room for the instillation. With the other hand, hold the upper dropper close to the eye and gently squeeze a drop into the pouch. After applying, close your eyes for about 1-2 minutes.
Note: Use only the correct amount of drops prescribed by your doctor. During instillation, do not let the tip of the dropper touch the eye or place it directly on the eye. If the dropper is dirty, it can infect the patient's eyes and lead to serious vision problems.
