1. Uses of the drug Fexguard

Fexguard 180 is indicated for use in adults and children over 12 years of age in cases including:
Patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis; Chronic idiopathic urticaria such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, red itchy eyes, watery eyes. Pharmacodynamic properties of the drug Fexguard
Fexofenadin is a second generation antihistamine. The drug is an active metabolite of terfenadine but does not inhibit the potassium channel involved in myocardial repolarization, so it is not cardiotoxic. Fexofenadine has no acetylcholine, dopamine antagonist and no alpha-1 or beta-adrenergic receptor blocking effects. At therapeutic doses, Fexguard does not cause drowsiness or CNS effects. The drug binds slowly to the H1 receptor, forming a stable complex, which dissociates slowly, giving the drug a rapid and prolonged action. The pharmacokinetic properties of the drug Fexguard:
The drug begins to take effect 60 minutes after taking it. Peak blood concentrations are reached 1 to 3 hours after taking 1 180 mg tablet. High-fat foods reduce peak plasma concentrations by about 17% and prolong the time to peak drug concentrations to about 4 hours. The drug binds to plasma proteins at a rate of about 60-70%, mainly albumin and alpha1-acid glycoprotein. When using Terfenadin, Fexofenadin has been detected as a metabolite of Terfenadine in breast milk and does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Fexofenadine is very poorly metabolized, about 5% is metabolized in the intestinal mucosa and about 0.5 - 1.5% is metabolized in the liver. Approximately 3.5% of a dose of fexofenadine undergoes phase II metabolism to the methyl ester derivative. Intestinal bacteria may be involved in this metabolism because this metabolite is found in the feces. The elimination half-life of Fexofenadine is approximately 14.4 hours and is longer in subjects with renal impairment. The drug is eliminated mainly in the faeces and 11-12% of the dose is excreted unchanged in the urine.

2. Dosage and how to use Fexguard

Fexguard 180 is taken orally, the time of taking the drug does not depend on the meal. Target users include adults and children over 12 years old. Users can refer to the drug dosage as follows:
Allergic rhinitis: 180mg/day equivalent to 1 tablet, taken 1 time/day. Chronic idiopathic urticaria: 180mg/day equivalent to 1 tablet, taken once/day. Special populations include patients with liver failure, renal failure, the elderly: No dose adjustment is required. Note: After taking the drug, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth may appear, this may be a manifestation of drug overdose. In this case, normal methods should be used to remove the unabsorbed drug from the gastrointestinal tract. Reducing drug levels in the blood by hemodialysis.
The above recommended therapeutic drug dosage for Fexguard is for reference only. Therefore, users need to use the drug under the advice of a doctor to ensure safety and achieve the best effect.

3. Fexguard drug side effects

Some unwanted side effects when using the recommended Fexguard drug include: Common symptoms:
Users have drowsiness, fatigue, headache, insomnia, dizziness. Nausea, indigestion. Suffer from upper respiratory infection, itchy throat, cough, fever, otitis media, sinusitis, back pain, cold virus infection. Uncommon symptoms:

Rash, urticaria, itching. Presence of hypersensitivity reactions such as angioedema, chest tightness, dyspnea, flushing, anaphylaxis. If you experience any of these unusual symptoms or side effects, you should immediately stop using the drug and consult a doctor. If side effects are rare or not mentioned in the instructions for use, notify your doctor immediately if you suspect any side effects of the drug.

4. Fexguard drug interactions

Erythromycin and ketoconazole increase the concentration and area under the concentration curve – possibly increasing the time of absorption and reducing the elimination of fexofenadine in the blood. Decreased drug absorption when aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids are used concurrently with fexofenadine, so these drugs must be taken about 2 hours apart.

5. Some notes when using Fexguard

The drug can cause drowsiness, dizziness, headache, so care should be taken when using the drug when driving or operating machinery. Pregnant and lactating women should use caution when taking fexofenadine. People who already have cardiovascular risk or have a long Q-T interval need to pay attention when using the drug. Patients who are taking fexofenadine should be advised not to self-medicate with other antihistamines. Patients with impaired renal function should be cautious and adjust the dose appropriately when taking the drug because plasma concentrations may increase due to prolonged elimination half-life. Elderly people (over 65 years old) often have physiological decline in kidney function, so pay attention when using the drug. Fexofenadine should be discontinued for at least 24 to 48 hours before conducting intradermal antigen tests. Hopefully, the article has provided information on the uses, usage and some necessary notes about Fexguard for you to use the drug safely and maximize the effectiveness of treatment.
