Uses of Kefotax

Kefotax medicine has the main ingredient Cefotaxime and other excipients. The drug is used in the treatment of bacterial infections.

1. What is the use of Kefotax?

Kefotax drug is used in the following cases:
Treatment of blood infections, meningitis, bone and joint infections, pericarditis caused by Gr(+) bacteria and Gr(-). Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections, abdominal infections, gynecological and obstetric infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections and gonorrhea. Prophylaxis of infection after surgery. Kefotax medicine is not used for patients with hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, pregnant and lactating women.

2. Dosage - How to take Kefotax

Adults:
Treatment of uncomplicated infections: The recommended dose is 1g of Cefotaxime every 12 hours and given by IM or IV. Treatment of severe infections, meningitis: The recommended dose is 2g Cefotaxime every 6 - 8 hours and injected IM or IV. Treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea: Single dose of 1g Cefotaxime, IM injection. Prophylaxis of infection in surgery: Use recommended dose of 1g Cefotaxime, injected 30 minutes before surgery. Children:
Children 2 months or < 12 years old: The usual dose is 50mg - 150mg Cefotaxime/kg/day and divided into 3-4 times. Inject IM or IV. Newborns > 7 days old: Usual dose 75 - 150 mg Cefotaxime/kg/day and divided into 3 times, IV injection. Premature infants and infants < 7 days: Dosage from 50 mg Cefotaxime/kg/day and divided into 2 times, IV injection. Patients with impaired renal function ClCr <10mL: Reduce the dose of Cefotaxime by half.

3. Kefotax drug interactions

There have been reports of drug interactions Kefotax when combined with drugs Fosfomycin, Probenecid and Azlocillin.

4. Side effects when using Kefotax for treatment

During the treatment with Kefotax, patients may experience some unwanted side effects such as:
Hypersensitivity reactions, eosinophilia and fever. Nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain or diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis. Hematologic changes. Headache, dizziness, hallucinations. Arrhythmia. Kefotax should be used with caution in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin and in patients with renal failure.
