Uses of Lifibrat 100 and 300
Lifibrat is a drug acting on the vascular system, often indicated in hypercholesterolemia with increased triglycerides. So what is the mechanism of action and what should be noted when using the drug?
1. What are the effects of Lifibrat?
Lifibrat has the main ingredient Fenofibrate - a derivative of fibric acid with lipid-lowering effects. The mechanism of action of Fenofibrate is to inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver, reduce atherogenic components and reduce blood triglycerides. Lifibrat lowers blood cholesterol by 20-25% and blood triglycerides by 40-50%. At the same time, Lifibrat helps to improve plasma cholesterol distribution by reducing the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol, reducing the risk of atherosclerosis. In addition, the component Fenofibrate can reduce extravascular cholesterol, increase urinary excretion of uric acid during long-term treatment and antiplatelet aggregation. Lifibrat is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, is strongly bound to plasma albumin and reaches peak plasma concentrations 5 hours after oral administration. Finally, the drug is excreted in the urine.
2. Indications of the drug Lifibrat
Lifibrat is indicated for the treatment of the following pathologies:
Simple hypercholesterolemia type IIa. Combined type IIb and type III hyperlipidemia. Single type IV endogenous hypertriglyceridemia. Persistent hyperlipoproteinemia secondary to diabetes mellitus (cause treated but not relieved). Hyperlipidemia diseases have applied diet and exercise but did not decrease.
3. Contraindications of Lifibrat
Lifibrat should not be used in the following cases:
Patients who are allergic to Fenofibrate or any other ingredient of the drug. Patients with severe renal impairment should not use Lifibrat due to the risk of nephrotoxicity. Liver dysfunction, gallbladder disease or severe liver failure. Children under 10 years old. Pregnant and lactating women taking the drug pose a risk of toxicity to the fetus and baby. Patients with photoallergic reactions during treatment with other fibrates or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ketoprofen). Patients should note a number of problems when using Lifibrat, including:
Check liver function before and during treatment because the drug has a high risk of causing liver toxicity. Discontinue if liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT) increase 3 times normal values. After 3 to 6 months of treatment, if plasma lipid levels do not decrease, additional or alternative therapy should be considered. The drug acts on the musculoskeletal system, so monitor for muscle-related symptoms during administration. Patients with cholestatic cirrhosis or gallstones when taking Lifibrat may have biliary tract complications. Monitor and check blood count periodically throughout the course of drug use.
4. Lifibrat drug interactions
Co-administration of Lifibrat with anticoagulants will increase the risk of bleeding. Do not use Lifibrat together with toxic drugs on the liver such as MAO inhibitors, Perhexiline maleate, ... will increase toxicity to the liver. Other fibrates, HMG CoA reductase inhibitors (Pravastatin, Simvastatin and Fluvastatin) when used together with Lifibrat will increase drug effects. To avoid interactions, before being prescribed Lifibrat, the patient should inform the doctor about the drugs they are using, including functional foods. The doctor will base on that to prescribe the appropriate Lifibrat.
5. Dosage and usage
How to use:
Lifibrat is prepared in the form of oral tablets, taken with the main meal. Use of the drug must be combined with a reasonable diet and exercise. Dosage:
Adults: 3 tablets (100mg tablets)/day. Children over 10 years: Use a maximum dose of 5 mg/kg/day.
6. Side effects of the drug Lifibrat
Some unwanted effects that may occur when using Lifibrat include:
Allergic reactions due to drugs, urticaria, itchy skin. Digestive disorders . Temporarily increased transaminase enzymes, increased SGOT, SGPT. Muscle pain. In summary, Lifibrat is a drug for the treatment of intravascular and extravascular dyslipidemia. The drug causes many side effects on the body, especially on the hepatobiliary system. Therefore, it is necessary to have a close monitoring of the doctor during the course of taking the drug. Using Lifibrat always needs to be combined with a suitable diet and exercise. Note, Lifibrat is a drug prescribed by a specialist, patients absolutely must not use it on their own.
