Uses of Mulasmin


Mulasmin 500 is an oral antibiotic with the main ingredient Azithromycin 500mg. As with conventional antibiotics, only use Mulasmin as prescribed by your doctor for infections caused by bacteria sensitive to the drug. Self-medication with antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance.

1. What is Mulasmin?


Mulasmin has the main ingredient is Azithromycin 500mg. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting their protein synthesis.

2. Indications of the drug Mulasmin


Mulasmin 500 is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria such as lower respiratory tract infections including bronchitis, pneumonia; Skin and soft tissue infections; otitis media ; upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, uncomplicated genital tract infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis or non-multiresistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

3. Contraindications of the drug Mulasmin


Mulasmin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to azithromycin or macrolide antibiotics.

4. How to use the drug Mulasmin


Dosage: take the drug 1 time / day, take 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals:
Children: the first day 10 mg/kg, from the 2nd to the 5th day: 5 mg/kg/day. Adults: the first day 500 mg 1 time / day, the next 4 days 250 mg / day.

5. Be careful when taking Mulasmin


During the use of Mulasmin, observe symptoms of superinfection caused by bacteria that are not sensitive to the drug, including fungal infections.
Dosage adjustment of Mulasmin is required in patients with renal impairment with creatinine clearance > 40 ml/min.
Do not use Mulasmin in patients with liver disease, because the drug is eliminated mainly through the liver.
Pregnant and lactating women: There are no data on studies on pregnant women and the ability to excrete the drug in breast milk. Mulasmin should only be used in these subjects when no other suitable drugs are available.

6. Undesirable effects of Mulasmin


The most common side effect of Mulasmin is gastrointestinal upset but is usually mild.
Effects on hearing: With long-term use at high doses, azithromycin may cause reversible hearing loss in some patients.
Common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain. Uncommon: Fatigue, dizziness, headache, somnolence, rash, pruritus. Rare: Anaphylactic reactions, Angioedema, Elevated transaminases.

7. Drug interactions


Do not use Mulasmin concurrently with ergot derivatives because of the possibility of poisoning.
Mulasmin is taken away from antacids at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after.
When taking Mulasmin with cyclosporin, it is necessary to monitor the concentration and adjust the dose of cyclosporin accordingly.
When Mulasmin is used concomitantly with digoxin, it is necessary to monitor digoxin levels because the drug can increase digoxin levels.
