3. When is Rirocan contraindicated?

Hypercalcemia - Metastatic calcification Hypersensitivity to vitamin D.

4. Dosage of Rirocan


Dosage of Rirocan:
Prevention of vitamin D deficiency: Adults and children take 10 micrograms (400 units) daily; Treatment of vitamin D deficiency: Children take 75 - 125 micrograms (3000 - 5000 units) daily; adults take 1.25 mg (50,000 units) daily, for a short time. Hypocalcemia due to hypoparathyroidism: Children can use up to 1.5mg (60,000 units)/day; Adults take 2.5mg (100,000 VND) daily. Dosage of Rirocan depends on the disease and the severity of hypocalcaemia. During treatment with vitamin D, adequate calcium intake from food or supplemental therapy is required. The dose should be reduced when the disease symptoms are relieved and the biochemical parameters are normal or the bone disease is cured.

5. Treatment of overdose, missed dose of Rirocan


Missed dose of Rirocan:
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the scheduled time. Overdosage of Rirocan:
Taking vitamin D at a dose not exceeding physiological needs is usually not toxic, however, with high or prolonged treatment, symptoms of vitamin D overdose may occur, leading to hypervitaminosis and vitamin D. Calcium toxicity is very dangerous. Overdose of Rirocan can cause the following symptoms: Anorexia, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, polyuria, sweating, headache, thirst, dizziness; increased concentration of calcium and phosphate in plasma and urine; Tissue calcification may occur if doses of 1.25 mg are administered continuously for several months. Treatment: Discontinue the drug, stop taking calcium supplements, maintain a low-calcium diet, drink plenty of water or give fluids. Calcium excretory diuretics (eg, furosemide, ethacrynic acid) may be used to reduce serum calcium concentrations. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis can be used to remove free calcium from the body. Induce vomiting or gastric lavage if acute poisoning (recent ingestion).
