Livoluk belongs to the group of laxatives, with the main ingredient being 10 g/15 ml Lactulose (a synthetic disaccharide used in the treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy). After reaching the colon, lactulose is converted by intestinal bacteria into low-molecular acid and CO2. These substances have the effect of increasing osmotic pressure and acidity in the intestinal tract, leading to an increase in the amount of water in the stool, helping to soften the stool.

Use with caution in patients with lactose intolerance. Lactulose solution contains galactose and lactose and should therefore be used with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus. Caution should be exercised when laxatives are used in children because they may cause loss of bowel reflexes; Livoluk does not affect the ability to drive and use machines; Pregnancy: There are no adequate studies in pregnant women. Use this medicine during pregnancy only if clearly needed; Lactation: It is not known whether the drug is excreted in human milk. Care should be taken when administering the drug to lactating women.

8. Drug interactions to note when using Livoluk

There have been conflicting reports of the concomitant use of the antibiotics Neomycin and Lactulose. Theoretically, Neomycin and other antibiotics eliminated some intestinal bacteria, which could affect lactulose metabolism, thereby preventing acidification in the intestinal environment. Therefore, patients prescribed concomitantly with lactulose and oral antibiotics should be closely monitored.
Some studies suggest that concomitant administration of lactulose with non-absorbable antacids may interfere with the goal of lowering intestinal pH. Therefore, the therapeutic effect of antacids should be considered before co-administration with lactulose.
Do not use Lactulose concurrently with other laxatives, especially in the early stages of treatment of hepatic encephalopathy because of causing frequent defecation, difficult to determine the exact dose.
Above is information about uses, dosage and notes when using Livoluk medicine. The article is for reference only, users need to strictly follow the instructions of the doctor, professional pharmacist to ensure effectiveness and avoid unwanted effects.
