Are mitral valve regurgitation 2/4 and 3 leaves 2/4 dangerous and how should it be treated?

Ask
Hello doctor! 4 months ago, I had surgery to remove the thyroid gland (K thyroid) and took a dose of radioactive iodine 30ml. Recently, I went to the doctor for a follow-up examination and the doctor ordered me to have an echocardiogram. As a result, I have a 2/4 heart valve and 3 leaves is 2/4. I am often tired, short of breath, weak in my arms and legs, and dizzy. The doctor said that I should continue to monitor and give instructions later. I would like to ask the doctor if heart valve regurgitation 2 leaves 1/4 and 3 leaves 2/4 is dangerous and how should it be treated? I hope the doctors help me understand better!

Answer
Hello! 1/4 mitral regurgitation is very common and does not cause any symptoms. Tricuspid 2/4 regurgitation is less common and often has an underlying cause.
You should go to a reputable Cardiology center for further evaluation and monitoring. Thyroidectomy can decrease thyroid hormone levels and cause the fatigue symptoms you describe.
You need to have your thyroid hormone test rechecked to determine the cause of your condition.
You can visit the Cardiology clinic - Hospital of Vinmec Health System nationwide for appropriate advice on the current 2/4 and 3-leaf 2/4 valve regurgitation.
Looking forward to seeing you soon at Vinmec as soon as possible to have a more detailed discussion. Wish you always healthy.
