How should varicose veins be treated?

Ask
Hello doctor! I am 21 years old this year, my legs have varicose veins since childhood. Now the leg is swollen and forms hard lumps like lumps, painful to the touch. The top of the pillow is bulging and when it hurts, the blood vessels are very prominent. This morning when I woke up, it was very painful and throbbing and I couldn't straighten my leg. Can you advise and tell me how to fix it? I thank you!

Answer
Hello! Thank you for trusting and sharing your concerns with Vinmec. When was your varicose veins diagnosed, have you ever had an ultrasound of your lower extremities? There are many cases of superficial veins in the lower extremities that are more prominent than others or are slightly dilated but are not really varicose veins. Ideally, you should go to the doctor and ultrasound of the lower extremities to confirm the diagnosis. Varicose veins of the lower extremities usually do not form the hard, ganglion-like lumps you describe. This could be a symptom of another medical condition. You should visit a hospital of Vinmec Health System nationwide for advice and the most appropriate monitoring and treatment. Hope you get well soon.
