1. The role and importance of brushing teeth properly

Daily brushing is an indispensable habit, this is the most effective and simplest way to protect teeth. However, if you do not know how to brush your teeth properly, it will reduce the effectiveness in protecting oral health a lot, and may even cause many problems such as: tooth wear, sensitive teeth, sensitivity, ....
Proper brushing brings many specific effects as follows:
Cleans plaque, food remains in the teeth, thereby helping to reduce the formation of tartar plaque. Protect teeth and gums, prevent tooth root abrasion, tooth sensitivity, receding gums, gingivitis, prevent bleeding gums, gum tissue damage caused by brushing too hard. Helps you have whiter teeth, prevents bad breath, limits the risk of oral diseases caused by bacteria such as gingivitis, pulpitis, tooth decay,...

2. The 5 step guide to brushing your teeth properly

Step 1: First, clean your oral cavity by rinsing your mouth with filtered water for about 30 seconds to remove plaque and food remaining in the oral cavity.
Step 2: Rinse the brush under running water to clean the bacteria remaining in the brush. Then take a sufficient amount of toothpaste to brush your teeth. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to protect your teeth. Many people often tend to choose a hard-bristled toothbrush because they think that using a hard-bristled toothbrush will clean their teeth better. However, brushing with a hard-bristled toothbrush increases the risk of tooth wear and gum recession.
Step 3: Place the brush horizontally and tilted about 45 degrees relative to the gum line, the bristles need to contact both teeth and gums. Brush the outer surface first including all the teeth in the upper and lower jaw, gently brush the outside of the 2-3 teeth from the upper and lower jaw up or rotate the brush 5-10 times, continue to do so with the successive groups of teeth on the outer surfaces of the upper and lower molars. Brush the inside of the upper and lower teeth similar to the outside by brushing up and down or rotating so that the bristles can get into each tooth to help get all the food stuck on the teeth. You absolutely should not brush your teeth horizontally and apply too much force. You need to ensure the time for each brushing is 2-3 minutes. With this period of time the teeth will be thoroughly brushed. Do not brush your teeth for any reason or brush your teeth for too long, because if you brush your teeth too quickly, the plaque on your teeth will remain, your teeth will not be clean, but if you brush your teeth for too long, use force. Too much force will wear away the enamel and eventually the cementitious structures and softer dentin.
Next, brush the chewing side of your teeth by placing the brush parallel to the chewing surface, then gently brush from the inside out about 10 times.
Step 4: Brush the top of the tongue from the inside out to remove bacteria that cause bad breath. In fact, many people forget this step.
Step 5: Clean the oral cavity by rinsing with clean water to remove the toothpaste. Thoroughly rinse your toothbrush because if you don't keep it clean, residual bacteria can cause bad breath and tooth decay.
Note:
Do not brush your teeth immediately after eating. Wait at least 30 minutes after eating or drinking to brush your teeth because immediately after eating, the pH in the oral cavity will drop, especially if you have eaten or drank foods containing a lot of acid before such as lemonade or soda. , brushing at this time will make your teeth more susceptible to erosion. Instead, drink water or chew sugar-free gum to freshen your breath while you wait. Use a toothpaste rich in calcium and fluoride to help strengthen your enamel. Replace your toothbrush periodically at least once every 3 months or when the bristles show signs of lint, wear, or frayed sides. Only rinse the brush under running water to remove any bacteria remaining on the brush. Absolutely do not wet the toothpaste before brushing.

3. How to properly brush children's teeth

Similar to adults, parents need to guide children on how to properly brush their teeth, including the 5 steps above. Proper brushing will help children protect oral health, limit risks such as tooth decay, periodontitis and affect the eruption of permanent teeth later. However, a note is that parents should remind children to spit out the foam, because at first, children often swallow toothpaste. Instruct your child to wash the toothbrush and let it dry by sticking the bristles facing up and the handle facing down.
Above is a way to brush children's teeth that parents can refer to to apply to help their baby get strong teeth.
