Steps to perform oral mucosa sampling test

Below is the procedure, steps and notes when taking oral mucosa samples done at Vinmec.

Open the envelope containing the cotton swab and sample collection instructions Fill in all the information of the person being sampled on the “Request for testing” Paste the barcode slip at the instructed locations Paste the barcode slip in the envelope containing the sample swab Rinse your mouth 3-5 times with clean water or physiological saline before taking the sample Note do not brush your teeth before taking the sample Tear off the plastic bag at the marked position Hold the cotton swab at the tip unwrapped Collect the sample by swiping and rotating the swab several times on the inside of the cheek for 30 seconds to 1 minute Repeat 2 swabs for each cheek Place the collected swab in the original barcoded envelope First Note that sampling is performed for each family member in turn. Complete the sample sealing envelope for this member and then continue to collect the sample for another member to avoid confusion. Allow the swab to dry naturally in the original envelope for 5 – 10 minutes Place the envelopes containing the collected swabs in a larger envelope, fill in the information and send it to the Medical Genetics Unit, High Technology Center After completing the sample collection, please send it to the following address:
