Preimplantation embryo screening is increasingly being used in clinical practice at IVF centers. The development and expansion of the PGS technique has also shown its effectiveness in supporting a successful IVF cycle.

The risk of embryos with genetic abnormalities (especially chromosomal abnormalities) increases with maternal age, reaching up to 35% in women 35 years old and can be up to 60% in women 40 years old. Thus, genetic screening at the chromosomal level before embryo transfer increases the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy and birth (1).
One of the most common types of chromosome abnormalities is trisomy 21, which causes Down syndrome. Statistics show that the rate of children with Down syndrome is closely related to the age of the mother. It ranges from 1/1100 in women aged 25–29 to 1/250 in women aged 35 and can go up to 1 in 100 in women aged 40 (2).
Recent studies on the use of PGS screening tests in older patients have also shown promising results, with a reduction in miscarriage rates and an increased rate of healthy births.

Women with multiple miscarriages are defined as women who have had two or more miscarriages in a row. Statistics show that about 50 - 80% of miscarriages in this group of patients are due to chromosomal abnormalities (3).
