Uses of Abicin 250

Abicin 250 is a semi-synthetic antibiotic drug containing the main ingredient Amikacin, 250mg content, prepared in the form of lyophilized powder for injection, packaged in a box of 1 vial with 1 tube of 2ml distilled water for injection. The drug is used to treat many infectious diseases in the respiratory tract, abdomen, bones, joints, skin infections, gynecology...

1. What is Abicin 250?

Abicin 250mg drug has the active ingredient Amikacin in the form of Amikacin sulfate. This is a semi-synthetic Aminoglycoside antibiotic.
Fast bactericidal drug because amikacin completely attaches to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, blocking the synthesis of proteins. Drug activity is reduced in anaerobic environments. The drug has a post-antibiotic effect, effective when taken once a day. The spectrum of action of amikacin is an aerobic Gram-negative bacillus. Amikacin has no effect on anaerobic, acidic or low oxygen environments, and has little effect on most gram-positive bacteria. Streptococcus and pneumococci are strongly resistant to Abicin 250.
The drug is rapidly absorbed after infusion, peak drug concentration after 30 minutes - 1 hour. The drug is well distributed into the bones, heart, urinary tract, lung parenchyma, bronchi, biliary tract, purulent secretions, intercellular spaces, synovial space, and pleural space. The drug is poorly absorbed into the cerebrospinal fluid unless the meninges are inflamed. The drug is excreted mainly by glomerular filtration.

2. Indications and contraindications of the drug Abicin

Abicin 250 is indicated for use in infectious diseases that are caused by bacteria sensitive to amikacin (gram negative and gram positive), including:
Severe infections of the respiratory system, bones and joints , central nervous system infections such as: Meningitis, pneumonia, osteomyelitis... Skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, burns and postoperative infections such as: Dermatitis, peritonitis, appendicitis... Abicin is effective in patients with bacteremia occurring in neonates. The drug is also effective in severe complications, recurrent urinary tract infections. Contraindications of Abicin:
Abicin is not used in people who are allergic to Amikacin and the adjuvants contained in the drug.

3. Dosage and how to use Abicin 250

How to use: Abicin 250 is used intramuscularly, injection or slow intravenous infusion.
Method of preparation:
Solution for intramuscular injection: Mix one bottle of 250mg drug with 2ml of distilled water in the accompanying box. Solution for infusion / intravenous injection: Mix lyophilized powder with an appropriate amount of solution for injection, using isotonic infusion solutions such as 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% dextrose. Dosage:
Intramuscular injection: The dose of the drug is injected according to the formula 15mg/kg divided into 2-3 times, 8 hours to 12 hours apart. The total daily dose for adults should not exceed 1.5g of the drug. Intravenous: Similar to the intramuscular dose of Abicin. The drug solution should be administered intravenously slowly over 2 to 3 minutes. If intravenous infusion, Abicin solution should be infused over 30 minutes to 1 hour in adults and about 1 to 2 hours in children.

4. Undesirable effects of the drug Abicin

Like other Aminosides, when using Abicin in high doses for a long time, it can cause ototoxicity and neurotoxicity such as deafness, imbalance symptoms caused by the drug, and damage to the vestibular system. Abicin has side effects on the kidneys, tests show increased blood creatinine, increased albumin, red or white blood cells appear in the urine, and less urine. Changes in renal function upon discontinuation of the drug are usually reversible. Other side effects: Rarely occur such as rash, fever, headache, paresthesia, myalgia, arthralgia, hypotension, anemia, decreased eosinophil count, vomiting or nausea.. If the patient experiences any of the above signs or other unusual symptoms, notify the treating physician.

5. Notes when using Abicin

While taking the drug, the patient should periodically monitor liver function with tests. In patients with renal impairment, the dose should be adjusted. Do not arbitrarily take Abicin or increase or decrease the dose as this may cause more harm than good. In clinical practice, doctors often combine Abicin with beta-lactam antibiotics to increase the optimal effect. Pregnant women, the elderly, nursing mothers, and infants should be cautious when using the drug, only using it when prescribed by a doctor. Drivers, using equipment and machines that require concentration should consider if they see signs of loss of balance when using drugs. In summary, Abicin 250 is a prescription drug in the treatment of infectious diseases in the respiratory tract, abdomen, bones, joints, skin infections, gynecology... Note, patients do not use it themselves but need to visit. Check and consult a doctor before use to ensure health safety.
