Uses of Kinadonas

Kinadonas is a prescription drug commonly indicated in the treatment of hypocalcaemia and osteoporosis in patients with chronic dialysis who have hypoparathyroidism after surgery. In addition, the drug is also used in the treatment of a number of other diseases when prescribed by a specialist.

1. What are the effects of Kinadonas?

Kinadonas medicine contains the main ingredient Calcitriol. This is a form of vitamin D3 that plays an important role in stimulating calcium transport in the intestine, increasing the absorption of calcium and phosphate in the intestine and regulating bone mineralization.
In fact, though Calcitriol is a substance produced by the parathyroid glands in the body. However, in people with chronic kidney failure, people entering the menopause, suffering from hypoparathyroidism, the production of calcitriol is often reduced, creating abnormalities in mineral metabolism.
Using drugs containing calcitriol orally will help improve hypocalcemia, reduce symptoms of some bone-related diseases. Several studies have shown that in postmenopausal osteoporosis patients, oral administration of Kinadonas increases calcium absorption, increases calcitriol levels, and reduces the risk of vertebral fractures.

2. Indications and contraindications

Kinadonas is indicated in the following cases:
Patients with osteoporosis caused by kidney, osteoporosis seen in patients with chronic dialysis. People with hypocalcemia caused by idiopathic hypoparathyroidism, post-operative hypoparathyroidism, patients with pseudohyperparathyroidism. Do not use Kinadonas for people with hypersensitivity to drug ingredients, hypercalcemia or vitamin D toxicity.

3. Dosage and how to use Kinadonas

Usual patients: Use Kinadonas with an initial dose of 0.25 mcg/day. After taking the drug for 2-4 weeks, the dose can be increased to achieve the desired effect. If dialysis is required, use the drug at a dose of 0.5 mcg/day and hypoparathyroidism at a dose of 0.5 - 2 mcg/day. Children from 1 to 5 years old take the medicine as prescribed by the doctor. Postmenopausal osteoporosis: The recommended initial dose is 0.25 mcg twice daily. However, the patient should pay attention to the daily diet to increase the dose to 0.25 mcg if the body is supplemented with less than 500 mg of calcium and does not exceed 1000 mg / day. Patients with renal osteodystrophy: The recommended initial dose is 0.25 mcg/24 hours and 0.25 mcg/48 hours if the patient has normal or mildly impaired serum calcium. During the course of taking the drug, it is necessary to monitor the progress of the disease, after 2-4 weeks of treatment, the dose can be increased by 0.25 mcg/24 hours if the disease does not improve, at the same time, pay close attention to monitoring calcium levels. blood at least twice a week. Patients with hypoparathyroidism and rickets: The recommended initial dose is 0.25 mcg/day, preferably in the morning. In cases where treatment has not progressed after 2 to 4 weeks of dosing, the dose may be increased by 0.25 mcg/day, with close monitoring of serum calcium levels for at least 2 weeks. times/week.

4. Side effects

The use of Kinadonas can cause some side effects such as headache, nausea, fatigue, dry mouth, loss of appetite, itching, increased BUN, increased liver enzymes ...

5. Drug interactions

Do not use Kinadonas concurrently with vitamin D-containing products and derivatives, other drugs containing calcium to avoid experiencing hypercalcemia. Concomitant use with Cholestyramine will affect the absorption of calcium in the intestine. Used with Phenobarbital, phenytoin will affect endogenous calcium synthesis, reducing serum calcium concentrations. If Kinadonas is used with Digitalis, it will increase blood calcium, which can cause arrhythmias. Concomitant use of thiazide diuretics increases the risk of hypercalcemia in people with hypoparathyroidism. Corticosteroids, calcium channel blockers, antacids should not be used with Kinadonas as they will inhibit calcium absorption.

6. Precautions while using Kinadonas

During the use of Kinadonas, patients need to follow a diet according to the instructions of the doctor to provide the right amount of calcium for the body. Treatment with Kinadonas should always be started with the lowest dose, should not be increased abruptly, and the dose should be adjusted gradually based on serum calcium concentrations. Patients receiving Kinadonas should be closely monitored for serum calcium levels (at least twice a week) during treatment to avoid sudden increases in serum calcium due to dietary changes. People with normal kidney function need to drink plenty of water when taking this medicine to minimize possible dehydration. Use caution when prescribing Kinadonas to pregnant and lactating women, people with a history of kidney stones or coronary artery disease. Patients need to take the drug in accordance with the dosage recommended by the doctor to avoid overdose that will cause adverse effects on health. Hopefully with some of the information shared above, you have a better understanding of Kinadonas to use it appropriately. As a result, the drug will promote the best effectiveness in treating the disease and limit possible side effects.
