Uses of Momencef

Momencef is a prescription medicine used in the treatment of certain medical conditions. So what does Momencef do and how is it used?

1. What does Momencef do?

Momencef is an antibiotic drug, made in the form of film-coated tablets with the main ingredient in each tablet is 375mg of Sultamicillin in the form of Sultamicillin tosilate dihydrate.
Sultamicillin is a double ester in which the active ingredient ampicillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor sulbactam are attached via a methylene group. Chemically, sultamicillin is the sulphon oxymethylpenicillinate ester of ampicillin.
In humans, during absorption, sultamicillin is hydrolyzed to sulbactam and ampicillin with a molecular ratio of 1:1 circulating in the systemic circulation. The oral bioavailability of Momencef is up to 80% compared with intravenous administration. Biochemical studies with non-cellular flora have demonstrated that sulbactam is capable of irreversibly inactivating most important beta-lactamase enzymes of penicillin-resistant bacteria.
Sulbactam has significant antibacterial activity against the bacteria Neisseriaceae, Bacteroides spp., Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Branhamella catarrhalis and Pseudomonas cepacia. Microbiological studies on resistant strains of bacteria have confirmed that sulbactam has the ability to protect penicillins and cephalosporins from bacterial destruction and also has a marked synergistic effect with penicillins and cephalosporins. Because sulbactam also binds to some penicillin-binding proteins, the combination of sulbactam-ampicillin is more effective against some susceptible strains than beta-lactams alone. Ampicillin is effective against drug-sensitive strains of bacteria by inhibiting the biosynthesis of mucopeptides of the cell wall.
Momencef drug is indicated in the following cases:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Sinusitis Otitis media Tonsillitis Pneumonia Bronchitis. Urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis. Meningococcal bacteremia. Skin, soft tissue and joint infections. Gonorrhea Momencef drug is contraindicated in the following cases:
People allergic to penicillin.

2. Dosage and how to use Momencef

The drug Momencef is used orally. The dose of Momencef drug should be according to the doctor's prescription, the reference dose for specific cases is as follows:
Adults and children weighing > 30kg: Use a dose of 1-2 tablets (375mg) x 2 times /day. Children weighing < 30kg: Use dose 25-50mg/kg/day, divided into 2 times, used continuously for 5-14 days. Uncomplicated gonococcal infection using a single dose of 6 tablets (375mg)/day.

3. Side effects of the drug Momencef

During the use of Momencef, you may encounter side effects of the drug including:
Macular rash Urticaria Itching Exfoliative dermatitis Anaphylactic (allergic) reactions may occur. Diarrhea Nausea, vomiting Abdominal pain, spasms. Epigastric pain. Drowsiness Fatigue Difficulty Breathing Headache. Anemia Thrombocytopenia Increased eosinophils. Increased serum aminotransferase and/or serum bilirubin. Interstitial nephritis Secondary bacterial infection such as: penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, gram-negative bacilli or Candida albicans infection after prolonged or high dose use.

4. Momencef drug interactions with other drugs

Taking Momencef increases the concentration and duration of action of Sulcilate when used concurrently.
Administration of Momencef to patients with hyperuricemia already taking allopurinol may increase the incidence of skin rashes.
Ampicillin in Momencef interacts with the copper sulfate test for urine glucose (Benedict, Clinitest), but it does not affect the glucose-oxidase method (clinistix, test-tape).
Basically, Momencef should be used according to the above instructions. If you have any more questions about the medication process, patients can consult their doctor for appropriate indications.
