Vacomuc is used to protect the liver from paracetamol overdose, by maintaining or restoring the liver's concentration of glutathione, which inactivates the intermediate metabolite of paracetamol. In paracetamol overdose, large amounts of this metabolite are produced because the main metabolite (glucuronide and sulfate conjugates) becomes saturated.
