Nexium Mups is a product of AstraZeneca (Sweden). The drug is prepared in the form of gastric juice resistant film-coated tablets with the main active ingredient being Esomeprazole 40mg and is used in the treatment of diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers and duodenal ulcers. Nexium Mups is indicated for use in the following cases:
Adults
Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): Treatment of esophagitis caused by reflux. Long-term treatment of patients with healed esophagitis to prevent recurrence. Symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In combination with an appropriate antibacterial regimen for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori: Healing of duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori. Prevention of recurrence of peptic ulcers in ulcer patients infected with Helicobacter pylori. Patients requiring continuous non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) therapy: Healing of gastric ulcers caused by NSAID therapy. Prevention of NSAID-induced gastric and duodenal ulcers in at-risk patients. Prolonged treatment after intravenous prophylaxis of peptic ulcer rebleeding. Treatment of Zollinger Ellison syndrome. Esomeprazole is a weak base that is concentrated and converted to the active form in the highly acidic environment of the secretory tubules of parietal cells, where it inhibits the H+K+-ATPase pump and both basal and stimulated secretions.

4.1. How to take Nexium Mups film-coated tablets for oral administration, swallow the tablets whole with liquid, do not chew or crush the tablets.

Dosage in case of prolonged treatment after intravenous treatment to prevent re-bleeding from peptic ulcers: 40mg once daily for 4 weeks.
Dosage in case of Zollinger Ellison syndrome:
Recommended starting dose 40mg, 2 times/day. Then adjust according to individual patient response. Clinical data suggest that the majority of patients are controlled on doses of 80-160 mg/day. Nexium Mups is contraindicated in the following cases:
History of hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, benzimidazole subgroups or other ingredients in the formulation. Esomeprazole should not be used concurrently with nelfinavir, atazanavir.
