Essentiale belongs to the group of digestive medications, with the main ingredient being soybean phospholipids. The drug helps improve gastrointestinal symptoms such as poor appetite and right hypochondriac discomforts due to malnutrition.

1. What are the uses of Essentiale?

The main ingredient of Essentiale is soybean phospholipids. It protects the liver in patients with acute liver injury caused by ethanol, alkyl alcohols, carbon tetrachloride, paracetamol, and galactosamine. Additionally, Essentiale has demonstrated efficacy in inhibiting fatty liver and fibrosis, as it contains an active ingredient that accelerates regeneration and stabilization of membrane, inhibits peroxidation, and suppresses collagen synthesis. Essentiale is commonly prescribed to improve symptoms of liver diseases such as loss of appetite, pain in the right hypochondrium, liver injury caused by toxins, and hepatitis.

Essentiale is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • Patients are allergic to soybean derivatives or any component of the drug.
  • As the drug contains soybean oil, it may cause severe allergic reactions.

2. Dosage of Essentiale

Essentiale is usually taken orally, with the capsule swallowed whole during meals, without chewing or crushing. Basically, the duration of using Essentiale is not limited.
The recommended dosage for Essentiale in children over 12 years old and adults is 2 capsules/time, 3 times a day, for a total of 6 capsules daily.

3. Side effects of Essentiale

In some patients, using Essentiale may lead to side effects such as:

  • Digestive disorders: abdominal pain, loose stools, diarrhea.
  • Allergic reactions, skin rashes, or hives which are rare.
  • If side effects worsen or unusual symptoms not listed occur, users should inform their doctor.

4. Precautions when using Essentiale

General precautions when using Essentiale include:

  • If unclear symptoms occur after using Essentiale, users should immediately inform their doctor for timely intervention.
  • Using Essentiale does not substitute for avoiding harmful substances that damage the liver, such as alcohol.
  • For chronic hepatitis, adjuvant therapy with soybean phospholipids should only be considered when treatment duration shows improvement in subjective symptoms.
  • Essentiale is not recommended for children under 12 years old, as there are no specific studies on the use of this drug in this patient group.
  • There are no special precautions regarding the use of Essentiale for drivers or machinery operators.
