Therapeutic uses of Gyrablock

Table of content

Gyrablock belongs to the group of antiparasitic, antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal medications. It is formulated in film-coated tablet form. The main ingredient of Gyrablock is Norfloxacin, which is indicated for the treatment of upper and lower urinary tract infections, cystitis, pyelitis, and urethritis. However, during treatment with Gyrablock, you may also experience side effects such as digestive disorders, loss of appetite, anxiety, and restlessness.

1. Mechanism of action of Gyrablock

The main component of Gyrablock, Norfloxacin, inhibits DNA gyrase, an enzyme necessary for the replication of bacterial DNA. This compound is bactericidal against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria. Additionally, Norfloxacin is effective against most common urinary tract pathogens, such as E. coli and Staphylococcus. Gyrablock also targets bacteria causing urinary tract infections and can eliminate pathogens like Salmonella and Shigella.

2. Indications and contraindications of Gyrablock

Gyrablock is indicated for the treatment of both acute and chronic upper and lower urinary tract infections, with or without complications, including cystitis, pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystopyelitis, chronic prostatitis, epididymitis, urinary tract infections due to urological surgery, and bladder diseases of neurological origin or kidney stones caused by bacteria sensitive to Norfloxacin.

Gyrablock is also used for acute gastroenteritis caused by sensitive bacteria, urethritis caused by gonococci, pharyngitis, proctitis, or cervicitis caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, whether or not it produces penicillinase.

Additionally, Gyrablock can prevent infections in patients with neutropenia by inhibiting endogenous aerobic bacteria in the gut, which can cause infections in neutropenic patients, such as those undergoing leukemia chemotherapy. It is also prescribed for bacterial gastroenteritis.

However, Gyrablock is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the medication.

3. Dosage and usage of Gyrablock

•    Gyrablock is taken orally with a glass of water, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
•    For urinary tract infections, the recommended dosage is 400 mg, taken twice a day. The treatment duration ranges from 7 to 10 days.
•    For cervicitis and urethritis, the recommended single dosage is 400 mg, taken twice a day.
•    For uncomplicated cystitis in women, Gyrablock is used for 3 days. Patients with renal impairment should follow their doctor's advice and may require a reduced dosage.

Note: The recommended dosages for Gyrablock are for reference only. Patients should follow their doctor's instructions before using Gyrablock.

4. Side effects when using Gyrablock

Gyrablock can cause various side effects during treatment. These side effects can range from mild to severe depending on the individual case.

Common side effects of Gyrablock include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, rash, itching, headache, tinnitus, dizziness, drowsiness, and insomnia. These side effects may occur at the beginning of treatment or after increasing the dosage. Typically, these reactions may be transient or diminish over time.

However, in some cases, Gyrablock can cause serious side effects, which are rare but can have severe health impacts. These reactions can appear within minutes of taking Gyrablock or a few days later. Serious side effects may include bloody diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, hypoglycemia, hives, bronchospasm, Quincke's edema, hypotension, anaphylactic shock, Steven Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, hallucinations, renal dysfunction, hypoesthesia, visual, auditory, taste, or smell disturbances, joint pain, tendon disorders, tendon rupture, elevated liver enzymes, hepatitis, acute renal failure, eosinophilia, leukopenia, and neutropenia. If any of these serious side effects occur, patients should stop using Gyrablock and seek immediate medical attention.

Here are some precautions to consider when using Gyrablock:

•    Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should exercise caution when using Gyrablock. If possible, it is advisable to avoid this medication. Patients should consult their doctor and thoroughly assess the benefits and risks before using Gyrablock.
•    Gyrablock can alter its effectiveness and increase side effects. To avoid interactions, patients should provide their doctor with a list of all medications they are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications.
•    Be mindful of any allergic reactions to Gyrablock. Inform your doctor of any reactions to receive timely treatment.
•    Gyrablock may cause dizziness and headaches. Therefore, individuals operating machinery or driving should take precautions to ensure safety.

The above information provides a comprehensive overview of Gyrablock. Patients should carefully read the usage instructions and consult their doctor or pharmacist before using this medication. It is important to note that Gyrablock is a prescription medication, and patients should not purchase or self-treat with it at home, as this may lead to side effects
