Pantonex DR is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, gastrointestinal ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. To ensure health safety and maximize treatment effectiveness, patients need to take Pantonex DR according to the doctor's instructions.
1. What is Pantonex DR?
Pantonex DR belongs to the group of gastrointestinal drugs, prepared in the form of enteric-coated tablets, packaging: Box of 3 blisters x 10 tablets.
Ingredients Pantoprazole (as Pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate) 40mg in Pantonex DR is a proton pump inhibitor. Pantoprazole inhibits the final stage in the process of acid formation in the stomach by covalently binding to the enzyme system (H+, K+)-ATPase at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. Thereby, inhibiting both normal and stimulated gastric acid secretion mechanisms.
2. Indications for using Pantonex DR
Pantonex DR is indicated for the treatment of the following cases:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease;
- Peptic ulcers;
- Prevention of ulcers caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
3. Dosage and administration of Pantonex DR
Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux syndrome:
- Usual dose: Pantonex DR 20-40mg x 1 time/day for 4 weeks, can be extended to 8 weeks.
- Maintenance dose: Pantonex DR 20-40mg daily.
- In case of recurrence: Pantonex DR 20mg/day.
Treatment of gastrointestinal ulcers:
- Usual dose: Pantonex DR 40mg x 1 time/day. Treatment duration is 2-4 weeks for duodenal ulcers or 4-8 weeks for benign gastric ulcers.
- Eradicate Helicobacter pylori bacteria by using a 1-week triple combination therapy regimen: Pantonex DR 40mg x 2 times/day combined with Clarithromycin 500mg x 2 times/day and Amoxicillin 1g x 2 times/day or Metronidazole 400mg x 2 times/day.
Prevention of ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs:
- Pantonex DR dose 20mg/day.
Treatment of Zollinger - Ellison syndrome:
- Starting dose: Pantonex DR 80mg/day. Pantonex DR dose can be used up to 240mg/day. If
- Pantonex DR is used over 80mg/day, it should be divided into 2 doses.
Pantonex DR dose for patients with liver failure:
- Maximum dose: Pantonex DR 20mg/day or 40mg/day for alternate-day dose.
- Dosage for patients with kidney failure:
- Maximum dose: Pantonex DR 40mg/day.
How to use Pantonex DR:
- Take Pantonex DR in the morning. Swallow the tablet whole, do not crush or chew Pantonex DR.
Note: The above Pantonex DR dose is for reference only. The specific Pantonex DR dose will depend on the patient's condition and the progression of the disease. To get the appropriate Pantonex DR dose, the patient needs to consult a doctor/pharmacist.
4. Contraindications to Pantonex DR
Do not use Pantonex DR in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient Pantoprazole or any ingredient of Pantonex DR or other Benzimidazole derivatives such as Esomeprazole, Rabeprazole, Lansoprazole, Omeprazole.
5. Drug interactions
Interactions may occur when Pantonex DR is used concurrently with the following drugs:
- Drugs with gastric pH-dependent absorption such as Ampicillin ester, iron salts, Ketoconazole used concurrently with Pantonex DR may increase or decrease the absorption of the drug when gastric pH increases;
- Drugs that affect the liver enzyme system;
- Warfarin used with Pantonex DR will increase the INR index and prothrombin time. This increases the risk of abnormal bleeding and death. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the increase in INR index and prothrombin time when Pantonex DR is used concurrently with Warfarin.
- Sucralfate can slow down the absorption and reduce the bioavailability of Pantonex DR. Therefore, Pantonex DR should be taken at least 30 minutes before taking Sucralfate.
To avoid unwanted interactions when using Pantonex DR, patients should inform their doctor/pharmacist of all medications, functional foods, vitamins... that they are using or intend to use.

- Severe hypomagnesemia can occur in patients treated with Pantonex DR for at least 3 months. Symptoms of severe hypomagnesemia include fatigue, muscle cramps, convulsions, dizziness, delirium and ventricular arrhythmia. Treatment of hypomagnesemia in patients taking Pantonex DR is by supplementing magnesium and stopping taking the medication.
- Magnesium levels should be measured before and periodically during treatment for patients taking the drug for a long time or having to take Pantonex DR concurrently with Digoxin or other drugs that cause hypomagnesemia.
- It is necessary to rule out the possibility of malignant gastrointestinal ulcers before using
- Pantonex DR because the drug can obscure the symptoms of diseases and delay diagnosis.
- Pantonex DR can cause a slight increase in liver ALT enzymes, poor absorption of Cyanocobalamin, decreased gastric acid or achlorhydria.
- The safety and effectiveness of Pantonex DR in children under 18 years of age have not been established. Therefore, it is necessary to consult a doctor before using it for this subject.
- Pregnant women should only use Pantonex DR when absolutely necessary.
