Therapeutic uses of Qlaira

Qlaira is a hormonal and endocrine pharmaceutical preparation available in tablet form. The primary active ingredient is estradiol, which is utilized for contraception or for the management of menstrual bleeding. However, certain adverse effects may be experienced during Qlaira therapy. Therefore, patients need to research carefully before using Qlaira.

1. Mechanism of Action of Qlaira

Qlaira contains an estrogen componentand the hormone estradiol benzoate. The use of this hormone also contributes to a reduced risk of endometrial hyperplasia
Qlaira is well absorbed through the mucous membranes and the digestive tract. Once in the body, Qlaira is widely distributed and reaches high concentrations in the target organs of sex hormones. Qlaira is extensively metabolized in the liver and becomes estrone and estriol. 

2. Indications and contraindications for Qlaira use

What are the therapeutic uses of Qlaira? Qlaira is indicated for contraception and is used as a contraceptive pill. Qlaira is also used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding not caused by uterine disease in women who desire oral contraception. Each tablet contains low doses of female hormones, specifically estradiol or a combination of estradiol and dienogest.

The two white tablets in the Qlaira pack are placebo tablets and do not contain any active substances.

3. Dosage and method of Qlaira administration

Qlaira is used orally. Each Qlaira pack has 26 colored active pills and 2 white inactive pills. Use Qlaira every day. Qlaira can be taken with or without food. But it should be used at the same fixed time of day.

4. Management of missed doses and overdose of Qlaira

If you miss a dose of Qlaira, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if the time between the missed Qlaira dose and the next dose is too close, skip the missed dose. Patients should not use double the dose of Qlaira, as this can cause an overdose. To overcome the situation of missing a dose of Qlaira, patients can set an alarm or ask a relative to remind them.

In case of accidentally using Qlaira overdose compared to regulations and some unwanted signs appear, it is necessary to take the patient to the emergency room immediately. However, family members can apply some preliminary treatment measures when Qlaira poisoning such as: Gastric lavage and induced vomiting. Then take the patient to a medical facility for treatment.

5. Undesirable side effects when using Qlaira

Qlaira may cause some undesirable side effects during treatment. However, for each case, the side effects of Qlaira can occur at different levels from mild to severe.

Some common side effects associated with Qlaira include gastrointestinal disturbances, nausea and vomiting, headaches, acne, menstrual irregularities, breast tenderness, intermenstrual bleeding, and weight gain… These side effects can occur at the beginning of treatment or after increasing the dose of Qlaira. Usually, the side effects caused by Qlaira may be transient or gradually decrease over time.
However, in some cases, Qlaira may cause serious unwanted side effects with rare reactions. These reactions can appear just a few minutes after using Qlaira or longer within a few days.  When serious side effects appear such as: vulvovaginal candidiasis, emotional disturbances, insomnia, psychiatric disorders, mood alterations, elevated liver enzymes, muscle cramps, vaginal discharge, or uterine bleeding, ... the patient should stop using Qlaira and go to a medical facility for immediate medical assistance.

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should be cautious when using Qlaira. Patients need to be consulted about using Qlaira from a doctor and carefully analyze the benefits and risks before using the drug.
  • Qlaira can change the ability to work as well as increase the effects of side effects.
