Uses of Gracial

Table of content

Gracial is widely recognized for its safe and effective contraceptive properties. To gain detailed insights into the components, administration, and uses of Gracial, readers are encouraged to follow the subsequent text.

1. What is Gracial?

Gracial is classified as a hormonal medication. It contains the active ingredients Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol, manufactured by Organon (Ireland) Ltd.

•    Pharmaceutical name: Gracial.
•    Drug class: Hormonal medication.
•    Active ingredients: Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol.
•    Formulation: Tablet.
•    Packaging: Available in blister packs containing 7 green tablets (0.025mg/0.04mg) and 15 white tablets (0.125mg/0.03mg).
•    Manufacturer: Organon (Ireland) Ltd.
•    Registered by: Merck Sharp & Dohme (Asia) Ltd.

2. What are the indications for Gracial?

The primary indication of Gracial is contraception, owing to the mechanism of its active ingredient Desogestrel, a synthetic progestogen. This active compound functions by inhibiting ovulation and also promotes the thickening of cervical mucus, thereby impeding sperm motility and fertilization.

Furthermore, the medication influences the characteristics of the endometrium, making it difficult for a fertilized ovum to implant.

3. How to use Gracial

Gracial should be utilized strictly according to a physician's prescription or according to the manufacturer's recommendations outlined below:

•    The medication is taken in accordance with the sequence on the blister pack starting from the first day of the menstrual cycle (the first day of menstruation) with a dosage of 1 tablet daily for 22 consecutive days.
•    The next blister should be commenced after a 6-day hiatus from medication.
•    After discontinuation, withdrawal bleeding usually occurs within 2 to 3 days after the last pill; however, it may not occur when beginning the next blister.
•    If utilized for the treatment of acne, a similar dosage regimen is followed over a period of 3 to 4 months.

Note: The aforementioned dosage is for reference purposes only. The specific dosage of Gracial is contingent upon the individual's health status and the progression of the condition. For an appropriate dosage, patients should consult their physician or healthcare professional.

Management of missed doses and overdose of Gracial:

Overdose:
•    Currently, there have been no reports of severe adverse effects attributable to an overdose of Gracial. However, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and light vaginal bleeding may occur in pediatric females. There is no specific antidote for an overdose; symptomatic treatment is advised.

Missed dose:
•    In the event of missing a dose and it not being more than 13 hours late, contraceptive efficacy remains intact. The user should promptly take the missed tablet upon remembering, followed by the next tablet at the scheduled time. If the missed tablet is taken close to the next dosing interval, the user may take both doses simultaneously and continue as usual.

Moreover, it is recommended to use barrier contraceptive methods, such as condoms, for the next 7 days. If intercourse occurred within the 7 days prior, consideration should be given to the possibility of pregnancy. The risk of pregnancy increases with missed doses and proximity to the scheduled break.
