What medication is Stugeron?

Table of content

Stugeron is a brand-name medication commonly used to treat circulatory disorders, vestibular disorders, or to prevent motion sickness. When using this medication, it is necessary to be cautious of potential side effects that may affect the patient's health.

1. What medication is Stugeron?

Stugeron contains cinnarizine as its active ingredient, which is a piperazine derivative that has antihistamine H1 effects.

Cinnarizine works by blocking receptors in the vestibular terminal organs and inhibiting the activation process of histamine and acetylcholine secretion. Additionally, it has the effect of reducing smooth muscle contraction in blood vessels by selectively inhibiting the flow of calcium ions into depolarized cells during muscle contraction, thereby reducing the presence of calcium ions required for the induction and maintenance of vascular smooth muscle contraction in blood vessels. Research has shown that cinnarizine is non-toxic and does not interfere with the important physiological functions of the central nervous system, circulatory system, and respiratory system.

Therefore, cinnarizine is indicated for the following conditions:

•    Vestibular disorders: Long-term treatment helps to reduce symptoms of vestibular dysfunction, including dizziness, lightheadedness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, and nystagmus.
•    Preventing motion sickness and preventing migraines.
•    Long-term treatment of symptoms caused by cerebrovascular issues, including lightheadedness, dizziness, tinnitus, vascular headaches, excitation disorders, difficulty interacting with others, memory loss, and poor concentration.
•    Long-term treatment of peripheral circulatory disorders such as Raynaud's disease causing cyanosis and cold extremities, intermittent claudication, vascular nutrition disorders, varicose veins, numbness, and nighttime cramps.

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity reactions to the medication or its excipients. Additionally, it is also noted in Parkinson's disease patients that Stugeron should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks of exacerbating the condition, and its use during pregnancy should be cautiously considered.
