Since 2018, Dr. Hiệp has specialized in the management and practice of advanced radiotherapy technologies.
He was among the first in Vietnam to perform VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy), SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy), and SRS (Stereotactic Radiosurgery for brain metastases using a linear accelerator). He also successfully conducted the first hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma treatment at Vinmec and among non-public hospitals in Vietnam.
Dr. Hiệp obtained his Master’s degree in Medicine in 2011, majoring in Oncology. He has spent many years studying and gaining expertise in advanced radiotherapy techniques and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the United States and Japan. He is also an accomplished researcher with nearly 40 scientific publications to his credit.
He has dedicated many years to contributing to both national and international medical associations such as the Vietnam Cancer Association, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT).
Currently, Master, Doctor Đoàn Trung Hiệp serves as the Chairman of the Oncology Specialty Council of the Vinmec Healthcare System, Director of the Vinmec Times City Cancer Center for Radiotherapy, and Head of the Department of Radiotherapy – Vinmec Times City International Hospital.
His areas of expertise include breast cancer, lung cancer, head and neck cancer, esophageal cancer, rectal cancer, cervical cancer, and gliomas.

- Made the Oncology Department at Vinmec Times City (VMTC) the first private medical facility in Vietnam to implement hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and high-dose chemotherapy since 2015.
- Led VMTC to become the first facility in Vietnam to apply autologous immune cell therapy to support cancer treatment (under the leadership of Prof. Nguyễn Thanh Liêm) since 2017.
- Established the VMTC Radiotherapy Center as the first private medical institution in Vietnam (since 2015) and the first radiotherapy center nationwide to routinely implement advanced radiotherapy techniques such as VMAT, SBRT, and IGRT. Currently, after 10 years of operation, over 95% of patients treated at the Center receive high-precision radiotherapy using linear accelerators (VMAT, 4D-VMAT, SBRT, IGRT, etc.).
- Treated more than 1,700 cancer patients with over 30,000 radiotherapy sessions at VMTC, achieving highly positive outcomes:
• 100% local control rate (no recurrence) for breast cancer radiotherapy after 5 years.
• 83.5% 10-year disease-free survival rate for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (comparable to U.S. and Japanese clinical trials).
• Over 55% complete pain relief rate for bone metastasis radiotherapy.
• 70% complete response rate in preoperative radiotherapy for esophageal cancer. - Published 40 scientific papers and clinical research works on cancer treatment in journals such as Vietnamese Journal of Practical Medicine, Vietnam Medical Journal, Ho Chi Minh City Journal of Medicine, Annals of Oncology (journal of the European Society for Medical Oncology), and in the proceedings of major conferences including the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO).
